Colonies can only be sent to coastal provinces, or to provinces adjacent to provinces where you already own a city. There are some exceptions: the siberian corridor allows colony placement next to trading posts, and the Great Lakes region is basically coastal.

#2: terrain. forest is green, mountains orange, desert yellow, and plains are beige. Winter is white.

#3: see #1. Colonizing trading posts is no different than unoccupied land, except that the chances are a little better, and you get a few extra population.

Center of Trade

There is 2 figures next COT - what that mean ?

Placing Merchant - if the COT is own by my nation and there is no other nation merchant , do I still need to place merchant ?

The two numbers is the total trade and your share from that trade....to that effect.

You have to place merchants in your own Cot to gain from the trade there, however you do get trade tariffs from foreign merchants in the Cot (in the city income screen - hover your mouse over 'province income').
