I've tried several times over a couple days, but I've had no luck in downloading EEP v1.4 through the North America (east coast) mirror. I've got DSL highspeed service. It can't be that busy that often. Any ideas?

Still no luck. I didn't find it in the Paradox game downloads.

Edit in ---> Scratch that, I got it. :)

Edit in again ---> Doesn't run on the Mac however. :(

No overwriting... The question is if the moddirs work on the Mac version...

Sorry, but what is a moddir? Mod directory? The .exe (set up) for EEP was unreadable by my mac. I never reached installation. Is it possible to simply place the folders manually?

The moddir is a function where you can specify an alternative directory to locate modded files. Handy if you are making extensive changes to core data files... It's activated by adding the moddir after the exe in the startup shortcut.

The thing is, that you'll need moddir to use the EEP if you don't want to have double installations (which I don't know how/if works on macs...). Apart from that it's possible to place the folders manually, yes.

Aha. That's in a zip file right? So it doesn't have a self installer.

We should think about packaging the EEP as a zip file for Mac users. We'd still have to understand how to set up the moddir though, so we presumably need a Mac owner to figure it out for us.

Mac version v. moddirs

I remember seeing stuff about moddirs here and there in the code while porting it, but since I never actually tested any of it chances and never got any explanation of what it was for chances are pretty good it doesn't work. If someone sends "alex at alexcurylo dot com" the files in a form I can open on the Mac and explanations for exactly what goes where in the Windows version, we can probably get a fix into the next patch if necessary.

OK, got it, and now that I read the code I remember the deal: the overriding directory is passed as a command line argument. There being no command line on the Mac, the internal variable that stores it never gets set to anything.

I'm open to suggestions on how to deal with this. The first that comes to mind is to add a field labelled "Custom Scenario Folder" or something like that to the startup dialog I have in place of the 'EU2 Settings' Windows app.

Gee, I really wouldn't know what would be most effective. Sorry, snocone. Maybe some of the regulars here can bounce some ideas your way.

Sounds good... the only annoying thing would be loading up the settings application every time you wanted to start a different game (there are 5 or 6 things around that use moddir now).

A really 'tricky' option would be to alias the executable to something similar to the name of the moddir, then find out how the program was run inside the program to work out what directory you use (can you do that on the Mac? I'm used to DOS/Unix). e.g. eu2 would run the standard game, eu2eep would use the eep directory first, eu2test would use the test directory, and so on.
