This may be an oddball request, but would it be possible to get a set of maps (or a DLC pack) that are either undeveloped or that only have a small town on them (i.e. something about the size of the tutorial city)? It would be nice to be able to start largely "from scratch" rather than starting out with mainly built-up options

I just uploaded a video on using the different generator filters, in order to randomly create terrain.
If you create a new map using those techniques and add a few roads, generate buildings on those, I'm sure you'll have a great starting point.

Open map editor, save map, start sandbox game and you start with a totally empty map. That's all I've played and tested on so far, building my city form literally nothing.

When using the height tools I can't seem to snap the slider where I want it, getting it back to zero or even 1 or 2 is near impossible. Going to watch your video and see if you mention that. For me the smallest move of the mouse moves the sliders 20 number in one or the other directions.

The more I think about this, the more I think it'd be so awesome if the city was developing by itself. We could start in a small town as a small bus company and grow with the city as it grows. But for this it would be needed that the city lays down roads. ( Then competitors could show up and they also could build roads )

Even if it was done as suggested in another thread by laying down ghost roads in the editor which would eventualy be built by the city, it would be awesome, so please, pretty please at least think about it :)

When you start a new sandbox game, there's a check box to enable or disable "city growth". So I guess it's in there, just takes time.
I've spent most of my time figuring out the map editor so far, but had about an hour of actual gameplay. Haven't seen the city developing yet, so I don't know how long it will take.

I didn't try to map editor, but I'm pretty sure It would be very easy to create such map.
Agreed.

It is easy to create such a map. The editor can make by itself some very beautiful landscapes by just choosing some filter settings and then generate the map. Almost all maps will need at least a little tidying up if you are particular about how they look but some not too much.

Then you need only to place a couple of roads and generate the buildings (or place by hand), save the map and you're good to go with a basic little starting village that you will NEED to add new roads to make them grow else they'll stay exactly as they left the editor if you generated the buildings.

The editor is very VERY easy to use, there are still a few things that I don't know what they actually mean in there as options but sliding the slider up or down changes what I can sometimes see on the screen, sometimes it's unnoticible what it changed. Still... Very easy editor to use for most people I think.

I think though, that most people will want to play on other peoples maps instead of their own, I know that's the way that I feel most of the time. I've got a nice little map with 2 smaller villages and 1 medium city on it, and to me (TO ME) it looks really nice, but I don't have a desire to play on it, and I attribute that to being because I created it.
