Well, the Baltic states do start as free nations at the start of the game. I could see it if the player goes through civil war in the Soviet Union where smaller states might try to break away like they did after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Im shocked they didnt have this as a path in the Soviet rework. Going democratic in exchange for some breakaway regions regaining their independence, maybe they help you more easily win the civil war. But instead of democratic we get more Monarchist and Fascist paths...

Historically, Ukrainians were receiving support to weaken Poland or Soviet Union or Czechoslovakia. For example, Ukrainians created a country called Carpatho-Ukraine and were looking for support from Germany during Munich agreement, but it ended annexed by Hungary. It lived only 4 days, 15 March 1938 – 18 March 1939.

A plausible way to play as Ukraine, is to start as German/Polish/Czechoslovakian/Hungarian/Soviet puppet with claims to unite all Ukrainian lands. This should be a way to destabilize neighbouring country or even a way to start war earlier.

I was complaining together with fr-rein about lack of prometheism idea during Polish dev diaries, but meme paths gained more attention then.

Why should Ukraine get one? Considering no releasable nation has a tree and releasing it just messes with the AI and the flow of the eastern front where arguably the core of the game happens.

Releasable Ukraine would need a change in soviet focuses, so the Soviet demands those teritories no matter who owns them.
ATM, when this teritory is owned by anyone else, than Poland or polish puppet, Soviet ignores it.

This is problematic because any regions that existed as recognized nation-states before (and could therefore regain their independence as you said) would have to be such entities as Khanates of Khiva and Bukhara. But the Soviet releasables were already defined in the game by their cores as constituent republics of the SU (and present day nation-states), which have very little to do with anything that existed before.

Would be interesting to have releasable countries with focus trees and even mechanics, to keep the game fresh with more content. Releasable nations needs some love too, considering the number of new nations that were created in these new patches.

Devs kinda made a choice to ignore Ukraine, it's outside of any priorities. Even more, they won't really comment because of the war there ongoing irl.

Even in Polish Focus Tree and any events related to it are not present - even in case of civil war it would be "polish peasants".

Kurds, Yugoslavia, Spanish minor factions, American Anarchist, etc all got a relatively nice treatment, mentions and roles in HoI4.

So why bother and argue over it? The choice was made, just move on. Play a mod, make a mod.

I dont see how this is problematic in terms of what I said. Just have new releasable nations that share cores with other nations. Multiple regions in the game already do this so its not like some unheard of thing. Its relatively easy to change and theyve modified it multiple times in the past.

I guess it's only because there's a war. So this demand is absolutely childish and even disrespectful. If you want to support Ukraine, go ahead and give real help to Ukrainian refugees.
I would be very careful how you word things. This has nothing to do with supporting Ukraine, it would be, however, an interesting addendum to history. This isn't the first time the request has been brought up.

Considering, they have focus trees for countries that do not matter in the game such as Latvia and Lithuania, and meme paths for most countries including Poland. I don't see what the problem is.

It is releasable as a RK for Germany and a SSR / something for USSR (if not bugged currently, maybe, haven't tried in a while).

So mildly interesting. I mean Vichy France has a focus tree. Not as if they can really do much.

In a WW2 era game that has Roman, Byanztine, Austro-Hungarian empires hedged into it, I don't see the problem with developing the would be puppets in between the powers, just a little bit.

@Cpt.Cross Releasing it can't be any worse than Romania controlling half the front and territory. Which seems to be the default action.

Why should Ukraine get one?
It is a funny question, because you answered yourself in the next sentence. I guess you wanted to ask "why releasing it at all?".

Considering no releasable nation has a tree and releasing it just messes with the AI and the flow of the eastern front
As you noticed, releasing Ukraine messes up the most important front of the WW2. This is why, Ukraine and Belarus should be railroaded to give it at least some credibility.
