Hello folks.

1) I have been considering playing the WWI scenario as the UK, seeing as it's still the centenary of that war. Are there any really important tips and tricks which I should be aware of before I start?

2) Also, any suggestions would be helpful about how to manage Britains numerous naval assets at the start of the war. I can understand (mostly) what I'm supposed to do with the battleships, but what is the use/purpose of all the battlecruisers/heavy cruisers/light cruisers/destroyers/submarines in the age of the big battleship?

3) In particular, is it possible to make the Dardanelles campaign work? With WWI tech, amphibious attacks seem to be very costly.

Thanks.

Make good use of your naval supremacy to shuffle your troops around quickly. In the first few months, rush as many people as possible into France, because in 75% of my 1914 games France falls before Christmas, and that will put a prompt end to your game. Once the Germans have stopped advancing, pull them out and focus on the Egyptian front. Taking care of the Ottomans isn't too hard due to their inferior tech. Would not recommend Gallipoli though.

Once the Ottomans have peaced out, just sit in Belgium and wait for the Germans to run out of manpower. If the Russians haven't had their revolution yet, it might be worthwhile to put a few divisions in the East to close some gaps, because the French will most likely be able to hold the line alone if they survive the first few months, while the Russians will be retreating from Day 1.

You can also hold the Ottomans in Palestine and focus on grinding down the Germans. You can draw them into a truly hellish killing match on the Belgian-German border or any other place where you can apply extreme pressure to the German army. You can do this alone as the French; with the British army there as well it just gets easier. This essentially turns the British campaign into a simpler version of the French one; catch the German offensive off-guard at the start of the war and then grind them into dust with superior Entente numbers.
