ZV48fx8.png

Username: thenextdecade (Steam)

Species Name: Flau'ei

Faction Name: Flau'ei Hedgemony (yes, puns)

Phenotype: Fungoid 1 (actually plant, but the closest thing we have is fungoids)

Ethos:
Fanatic Collectevist, Xenophobe

Traits: Quick Learners, Resilient, Sedentary, Communal

Government: Despotic Empire (actually Hivemind, but it's not an option)

Start FTL: Wormhole

Start Weapons: Laser

Starting Planet: Tropical

Biography:
The Flau'ei once were a peaceful hive mind of plant-like creatures, longing for friends in the eternal abyss of the universe. They would accept anybody. That was their downfall.

Eventually they did find other life. Or it found them. A species of warmongering conquerors arrived, and quickly overwhelmed them. They were enslaved, completely and totally. Life was hell, and it seemed like there was no way out of that hell.

They didn't give up, though. They kept on trying to rebel, because the conquerors didn't seem to get the fact that they were a hivemind and losing a few hundred or so bodies to summary executions wasn't that big of a deal to them. Eventually, one attempt succeeded.

One glorious morning they managed to steal an experimental piece of technolgy, and once the chance arrived, fried the whole fleet of the conquerors right as they were fighting against another militaristic empire. The conquerors were annihilated, and the Flau'ei were once again free. But they never forgot their boon.

The Flau'ei were broken. Traumatized by that experience, never able to forget it due to being a single mind across a billion of bodies, they grew jaded. They stopped trusting anybody, and now, the most of all, they wanted to be left alone.

They also grew quite a foul mouth after that. Though their curses aren't really that offensive to anything but plants.
Something like that.

Just got my sheet up to date.

I renamed my people from the Scarrans to the Scravan. Mostly as I realized that Scarrans are a people from Farscape that I had completely forgotten about....

So, after browsing the Space Tinder, here are the civilisations the Cogans are most eager to encounter, and the ones they'd rather be friends with from a considerable distance.

Great friends in perspective:
* The Fenexian Consortium
: Foxes after our own mind! We share the same goal, and will gladly trade our scientific advances for your wealth, for the prosperity of bot our people.
* The United Republic of Gregorian Straits: while they are a bit disappointed to learn that the first colons arrived on their home planet in pursuit of a fugitive while armed with lethal weapons (something the Cogans would rather avoid), they like that our two species can most likely see eye to eye.
* The Rekath Royal Hive: While your societal organization is something we have a bit of a problem grasping, we are very interested to find out more. Hopefully you will not take offence to this interest in your simple life. We do not want to bring change you do not wish, but rather to understand you for our mutual betterment. (also @TheBeautifulVoid will hate me but it seems Space Tinder is wrong on our match... Sorry I thought I had checked everything before)
* The Tiokii Union: Our societies may be very different, but we agree with your goal of bringing peace and understanding to the galaxy.
* The Scravan Ascendency: We do worry about your spiritualism, which sounds like it would prevent you from achieving the best possible society. But that should not prevent us from being great friends, as our ethics seem to align, and as you we want nothing but peace.

Approach with caution, but seem like interesting people:

* The Vorso Conglomerate: We do find the senseless murder prevalent among your own species repugnant, but if we could just convince you to stop this, we could both gain so much from cultural and scientific exchange...
* The Calvarian Council: We can't quite tell if you're more similar to the Fenexian Consortium (good) or the Vorso Conglomerate (sort of bad?), but we're wary of people who say they've "replaced" the senseless bloodshed of war with something else. It is not something that needs replacing, it could have just disappeared.
* The Zorgothian Seekers: We understand that they have been misled, having made an error based on lack of sensory input regarding the inherent wrongness in killing. They seem like reasonable people, I'm sure we can convince them of abandoning these militaristic ways.
* The Democratic Republic of Bob: They sound a bit like the defunct Theamians. We'd be interested in meeting Bob, he sounds very interesting, although something about their devotion to him worries us a little.

Run and hide:
* The Kraythian Crusaders:
They're wrong about everything, but we are not fools and will not draw their attention uselessly. We can't bring peace and understanding to the galaxy if those mad reptiles kill or enslave us.
* The Xor: They have perverted science to unspeakable goals. :-(
* The Great Limax Empire: Run. Kill them if necessary. In fact, kill them if you can. They probably don't even qualify as sapient any more. They are madscallopheads, frothing at the mouth.
* United Biadine Kingdoms: see Kraythian Crusaders
* Watchers of the Holy Spheres: see Kraythian Crusaders

Yeah, people with strong divergence who weren't xenophobic or militarist I didn't put into "Run and Hide". I'm probably just going to ignore them. Even some Militarist don't look like they'd be such a threat to us.

Updating the thoughts of the Calvarian Corporate Council on other empires, considering more information and the invention of Space Tinder.

Promising Trading Partners/Protectorates (Sympathetic peoples that might be too peaceful to be useful allies)
The Cogan Commonality: A good society to foster positive relationships with. Several corporations are drafting suggestion for research exchange programs that would enrich us all. RE: War has it's purpose - Conflicts still need resolving, but we strive to find more productive resolutions.
The Fenexian Consortium: Their ways are strange, but they seem to value mercantile endevours. Their offer of special rates is intriguing.

Promising Allies (Their ways are not too alien to us and they seem like a force to be reckoned with.)
The Iy'rana'sec Tribes: The society of these reptiles echoes what we might have been like if we gained space flight earlier in our development. And if we were frighteningly strong lizards who are kind of disgusting-looking. At least there is some common ground. Could be useful to have on our side, but their politics seems to be on the volatile side.
The Rakh Empire: These winterborn warriors are both physically imposing as well as cunning. Fearsome allies and dangerous foes. The question is, how can we make sure they end up in the former category?

Will have to evaluate further
The Vorso Conglomerate: They are ruthless, yes, and also uncouth. Will they be able to do business like a civilized species? Threat or ally, time will tell.
Tiioki Union: A non-threatening neighbor and a potential untapped market. Could have the potential to become self-righteous meddlers. RE: Actually, slavery has been abolished on Calvar for millenia. What you might be referring to is the quite different practice of mandatory assignments for lawbreaking employee-citizens.

Threats and/or Promising Targets (Some species deserve to be liberated from their cruel overlords and backward ways, and perhaps find a new future as valued employee-citizens. Or should be avoided if not a ripe target)
The Great Limax Empire: They undoubtedly are on the path to their own destruction. There are a lot of opportunity for profit. We should bide our time.
The Xor: Technologically advanced and unfriendly. Unlikely to have much to offer. Avoid if possible.
United Biadine Kingdoms: A primitive and seemingly uncooperative society.

What should the value be, and what is it currently?
Imperator Thax is Fanatic Collectivist and Pacifist. That should be 2.5 away from me, since Fanatic Collectivist is 2 away from neutral, and everything else is 1 away. But it's listed as 1.5

I didn't find any other errors.

BTW doing this I kinda realized that there are some ethos I care about more than others. For example, I tend to accept Spiritualists more easily than Militarists, even though my ethos doesn't say otherwise. So either my system is not much better than the old one at finding good matches (a strong possibility) or I should consider changing my race's ethos to drop the Materialist and make them Fanatic Pacifist. But on the other hand I really liked their materialist aspect, even if they don't let it get in the way of potential alliances...

I was terrified that something like that would happen; it seems it has happened, but on the plus side we managed to find it and deal with it.

If we make a version of this sheet for future games (and have the Space!Tinder built in and autogenerating) it may be worth having drop-down menus for those rather than free insert fields, to stop things like that happening.

The Sc’arc of Kadelbe has grumblingly decided to look into the Space-Tinder and see what’s what.

Natural Affinity

Kraythian Crusaders: The rediscovery of the Holy World only proclaims the truth more fully than ever before – the Krayth are lost blood brothers and rightly inherit any of the old worlds of the Precursors. Kadelbe welcomes their stewardship over such worlds with honour… so long as they recognise the power of the Mhanze, and see Kadelbe for what it is: the most powerful world in the galaxy.

The Scarran Ascendancy: There will always be a place for these blood brothers within the Empire, should their territory lie in the dominion of the Old Empire. If they remain as peaceful and meek as they appear, Kadelbe will ensure that they, and all descendants of the Precursors, live on and reclaim their legacy.

The Zorghonian Seekers: Another race of blood brothers and descendants of the Precursors is welcome to us. Their quest for science and knowledge will go unnoticed by us most likely. Perhaps we will share the secrets of the Ancients with them, should they prove trustworthy. We trust them with ownership of the Old Worlds.

The Iy’rana’sec Tribes: More blood brothers to inherit the legacy of the Pre-cursors. We are not so ignorant as to not be wary around these fellow descendants, but we will have no quarrel with them, nor with them holding the Old Worlds for their own. They need only acknowledge the Sc’arc’s power in the galaxy…

Rightful Opponents

The Xor: Muster the populace! Man the ships! Assemble the Ancient Armada! The Mhanze leads us into the heart of the scourge to push back these soulless beings. Our empire will not suffer their savagery. Let legends be told of our victories against this foe. Their advanced technology will benefit our understanding of the ancients.

The Great Limax Empire: The Chief of the Inquisition has passionately spoken at length of the dangers of this hostile and ruthless empire. To the military, pushing back the Xor is pest control. Defeating this race that would dare stand against our power will be a struggle to preserve what the Ancients have given us. If they dare violate our territory, no mercy must be shown. They must never set foot on Kadelbe.

United Biadine Kingdoms: If these pretenders believe that this galaxy belongs to them, then let them come forth, and face us – a true challenge. We welcome their aggression. When their final warrior breathes their last breath, we will prove to this galaxy that Kadelbe is the mightiest and is not to be challenged.

The Rakh Empire: If it’s a fight they want, it’s a fight they’ll get! We admire their strength, but will not tolerate a rival power near us. If that is the case, we will fight them, and be victorious. Such a victory will assert ourselves as the strongest empire the galaxy has seen for decades to come.

Strong Caution

The Xanadar Mandate: Like many of the fellow descendants of the Precursors, they have forgotten their origins and fall into superstitions and ridiculous religions. Kadelbe will serve as an example to them of how an empire can achieve true greatness. Their caste system is detrimental to their society – with a more equal society they could achieve much more.

Kraken Collective: We know little about these people, and we dislike what we do know. We will watch them, carefully, and should they become too ambitious, we will stop them and throw them back into the ocean from whence they came. On the other hand, they might prove to be valuable members of our own society with the right methods.

Followers of the Being: Our scouts have ill reports of these crawlers creeping through the stars. Their faith will not be tolerated inside Kadelbe’s influence. Caution must be adopted Claim the old worlds away from this race – destroy their fleets if necessary but do not allow these slavers near the legacy of the Ancients.

The Vorso Conglomerate: These are cutthroat capitalists that care for nothing but their wealth and trinkets. We find them distasteful and would prefer to shun them in favour of our internal affairs. If they push too hard, we will bite back hard.

The Shield of Etheria: Perhaps an honourable and worthy opponent can be found in these people. We won’t provoke them, but we would relish the challenge of combat with this cunning and strong race. They seem like they would look for a fight. We would oblige them, and show them the true power of the galaxy.

Democratic Republic of Bob: We do not understand these strange people. They appear to only be interested in the word of their unusual faith. This faith is not permitted in the Empire. We would advise them to keep to the Outer Colonies to trade if they wish. A longer relationship would perhaps lessen this restriction.

The Children of Ur: Despite their heritage, these blood brothers are a dangerous people warped by insane zealotry. The Sc’arc is more keen to observe…. For now. There are many potential enemies in this galaxy, and unless these people become too powerful, we are content to let them be.

Goid Hegemony: We do not know enough about this race. All we know is that they are expanded. If they expand too much, we will control it to prevent interference with our ascension.

Watchers of the Holy Spheres: More zealots that we will acknowledge, but merely observe. They are forbidden from spreading their faith within Kadelbe’s borders and any violations will be strictly punished. Trade will be carefull managed…

Least Concern

The Fenexian Consortium: This strange people that trade at the edges of the Outer Colonies have not warranted much attention to us. Their interests lie in our possessions, which they are eager to swap for aliens possessions of their own. The Chief of Finance believes that the pointy ears might be willing to trade any potential old world we discover inside their empire in exchange for a relic of the ancients…

Children of Enki: These aliens are strange to us, and appear to seek something dear to them among the stars, but it is of little concern to us. We must look inward, after all, and if they mind their own business, then there is little to be concerned with. Unless they possess one of the old worlds, of course….

Rekath Royal Hive: Like the Enki and the Fenexians, these aliens are passive, unwarlike and unworthy of our concern. Trade is agreeable, perhaps even migration if certain assurances are made. As mentioned before, if they possess one of our ancestors Old Worlds, we will do whatever it takes to acquire it.

The Cogan Commonality: Let them go freely about to study the galaxy. The Chief of the Inquisition claims they are harmless. With the right persuasion, they could provide us with knowledge of the secrets they uncover.

Flau’ei Hegemony: This race appears secretive and wishes to be left alone. The inquisitors will likely study them further but they don’t want anything to do with us. We would rather focus on ourselves.

Tiioki Union: We consider these tribals somewhat primitive; not unlike we once were. Unless they develop serious capabilities, it is doubtful that Kadelbe will need to interfere with their affairs unless they steal away an Old World.

The United Republics of Crysik: Their core beliefs are detrimental to a strong society. We hold little interest in them, and will seize any of our rightful territory that they should control from them.

Alcarian Ascendancy: Like other “explorer” types, we care little for what they do, since the pose no direct threat to us. We must protect the Old Worlds from their interference however, and ensure they do no tamper with the relics of the Ancients.

The Calvarian Corporate Council: A soulless society of economists – probably with no real strength. Leave them to their boardrooms and markets. We can take what we want from them should they ever stand against us.

Hey this is my species submission that I tried to add to the spreadsheet but for some reason I couldn't seem to edit it. If someone could be so kind as to add it into one of the free slots it would be very appreciated :) Thanks in advance

Observers report, July 12th 2216,
Topic: The Anu'Kehmet Hive

To whom it may concern:
We have been compiling this report on the species that refers to themselves as the Anu'Kehmet hive ever since their initial contact with us over 2 years ago.
Physically they are an arthropod species that follow many similarities to arthropods found on our planet. Notably their breeding and caste system. Their is a queen of the entire hive who has a male consort. These are the 2 individuals of the hive that can actually reproduce and though the amount of young is a large amount, now that they are on a interplanetary scale it has caused them to have a slow growth rate compared to other species we have encountered. The queen and her consort are worshiped as god-kings, in a way very similar to ancient Egypt of our own history, even to the point of when the generation of rulers dies they get buried in giant tombs and are believed to ascend into their gods. It has been assumed that the Queen-Goddess and her consort do not interact with other species as we, nor any of the other races they have communicated with have ever seen them. The species interacts with other races through the use of emissaries. Individuals purposely bred for the use of diplomacy and inter-species interaction. This has shown us that other citizens of the hive have been bred for individual purposes and exist to live as cogs in the hives machine.

They have evolved on a desert planet that from our interactions with the hive has been described as being a 'hostile planet'. Scans have showed that this hostility evolves from the large amount of MegaFauna that populates the planet. This has caused the Hive to evolve as an extremely strong and resilient species. Physical observations has shown the species doing feats of strength via biological means previously thought impossible. Historians that have asked the Emissary about the style of warfare the Hive uses has also wielded interesting discussion among our world. The hive still fights very traditionally, still using what would be an equivalent of sword and shield fighting. When asked about using gunpowder or other projectile weaponry they have stated that though guns where invented in their society, they never used it in ground warfare as it proved to be ineffective due to the thick exoskeleton that covers their bodies. Projectile weaponry needed to be so large that it proved unwieldy and it was much more effective to use giant melee weapons in battle.
These gunpowder and explosive devices found a place in their industry instead. It wasn't until they reached the stars and built a fleet that they started using projectile weaponry in the traditional sense by using them on their battleships.

Their interactions with other species and empires is an interesting one. They have tended to take a forceful peace kind of strategy. They have a very strong fleet but they try to integrate species through peaceful means. Often leaving other empires that they have either conquered or integrated to remain largely independent, without needing to pay taxes, so long as they accept their beliefs of the queen-goddess being a divine being. This has of course brought among conflict with other species whom they have swiftly attacked afterwards and enforced a puppet-state situation on these empires to show the supremacy of the queen-goddess.

This has been a report on the Anu'Kehmet hive, as requested by the ruling party of our planet in regards to their recent proposal of the Queen-Goddesses protection in exchange for accepting her as a divine.
