I've noticed in 3.02b that the UK routinely marches large stacks of troops overland from India through the middle of Europe. I'm currently playing as Greece so I can see them moving through Istanbul in the direction of England. I suppose using that new straight in the channel. Thought that was interesting.

EDIT: Nevermind, these seem to be exiled troops returning from wars in Africa and Asia. Although that seems odd. I made a post about it in the BETA thread.

The AI in general is fond of marching tens of thousands of troops through multiple neutral nations to appear in areas you wouldn't think they could possibly attack. Russians in Hong Kong, anyone?

In the beta UK is very successful in helping with French invasions. The only problem being I had to send a fleet over at the start to stop the massive invasion by France to England. But the British quickly defeated the French and started pouring into Europe.

On a side note: The U.S. actually invaded France in that war as well.

Forget Russians in Hong Kong, I just had Russians march from Russia to Ethiopia!

Military access through Ottos and Egypt. No more surprising (possibly even less) than military access through Mongolia, Chinese Empire, and Guangxi.

Playing Brazil, Britain joined in due to an "Almost" sphere and were quite capable of constantly landing stacks of 30k troops, dont see why my UK seems to be alright compared to a lot of others.

Good for you. The UK can do that if they have a NAVY. Problem is UK don't rebuild navy if lost nor expand it. You don't land much troops with 9 transports.

They landed 30k troops? That might work on Brazil because they have so little soldier pops, but if they try that on germany what do you think will happen?

Unless germany (or Prussia most games these days) is only fighting UK 1-1, 30k stacks with a much closer distance to move them would do some damage as they quickly get up to 60-70k.

Once again, seems to be something about the games ive played but they have been capable of maintaining a sizable fleet into the 1900's.

Not that their isnt a problem as their clearly is though.

He said they don't REBUILD and don't properly EXPAND. Just because the Brits never lost their navy doesn't mean everything is okay. I see them having enormous fleets of commerce raiders even late into the game when I'm already fielding dreadnoughts. Then destroying the British navy results in them having barely any navy at all. Plus, they don't properly upgrade to late-game monsters.

And 60-70k stacks are also completely useless against a mid-/late-game Germany, they'll get wiped out instantly and the "damage" they'll do is nothing compared to the fact that Brits will lose huge armies while the Germans only suffer a few thousand dead and then slowly recover back while the Brits just keep pouring in troops on suicide missions.

Hmm, in both my games with the beta it seemed that Britain, along with everybody else, were fielding very strong navies. I tag switched to my ally Spain and saw they had a fleet of 6 battleships and 8 cruisers. This was in 1899 or so.

I guess there might be some sort of randomness involved. Actually, each V2 game is usually very random from eachother, so that could be it, still weird why the randomness factor would apply to AI Britain's competence at rebuilding the navy that is so important to them, yet seems to be neglected a lot.

I was playing with France using 3.02B and reached the year 1912 now. I've pretty much conquered only real life French colonial Africa and small parts of Asia from my starting position, left everything else for others. I've been beating up North German Federation a lot with Austria, and it never got around to form Germany. Bavaria actually formed Germany so they're both just sitting there with rather low scores. The UK I left pretty much untouched, had to invade it once to end a war.

I'm a clear forerunner in prestige, few hundred points ahead the UK and USA in industry, but in military I'm only #2. I thought China had a ridiculous amount of armies around, but nope, it was the UK... They had almost 1600 points, I had only 800, mind that I'm slightly hampered by Anti-Military my ruling parties keep having.

But to the good part. The UK has a standing army of over 350 brigades stationed all around the world. However, they have only a single doomstack of a navy. It has 40 battleships, 40 Dreadnoughts, 40 Cruisers and 50 Steam Transports. I think that's a pretty decent navy to have and matches really well the Naval Defense Act hehe. Although they're a bit short on transport capability, but still.

40 Dreadnoughts

Yep I've been seeing the UK matching or exceeding my dreadnought spam pretty regularly in 3.02b.

I'm not sure why they sometimes don't rebuild their Navy, but the same thing happened to France in my Philippines game. I destroyed the entire French navy in two battles off the coast of Sumatra during the first Filipino-Dutch war and now they're sitting around with less than 10 ships forever. So it may be a more widespread AI bug than just the UK.

EDIT: Well, I haven't actually checked lately, but they did not build any ships at all in the ~25 years between the 1st and 2nd Filipino-Dutch Wars.

It could just be that the Naval AI loves to fight with doomstacks.

Either they send 3 transports or they send 40 warships. There isn't a lot of middle ground that I've seen. So maybe when the AI has its entire fleet destroyed it does try to rebuild, but it never reaches critical mass and its piddling navy just keeps getting destroyed again by the other AI doomstacks in minor wars.

The AI UK for me is rather hit and miss in terms of the wars they involve themselves in. In 3.01, in my kleindeutschland game, I was allied with the UK, and they NEVER helped in a land war in Europe, often leaving me to fight the Russians, French, and Austrians alone (though often the Schleiffen Plan worked, and the Russians didn't attack for 6 months, so I could focus on the French, or I had Italy to act as a foil). But when the Greeks fought the Bulgarians, the British sent 200k troops to help the Greeks put the smackdown on 20k Bulgarian soldiers.

In my 3.02 beta Grossedeutschland game, during the Franco-Prussian War, the UK did help, landing 100k troops in northern France while I marched on Paris and held off the Russians in the east.

I keep allying with the UK hoping to take advantage of their navy, effectively turning them into the Allied navy while I control the Allied army. But their navy typically stays docked in Kent during wars. We shall see what happens when I go after some French African colonies in the early 1860s today.
