You have to think of the ideals during the medieval ages. It was very different from our ideals. A woman's body was to be curvy to be considered attractive etc.

+ The habsburg jaw came from a Polish princess so blame the Poles...

Well, there is a difference between Marilyn Monroe-curvy and Rosie O'Donnell-landwhale.
Attractive characters should not have 3 chins, should not have bulbous or lumpy noses, should not have those small, beady eyes, should not have ugly haircuts.
Strong male characters shouldn't have weak chins (in my opinion) or thin, stringy necks.

As for Habsburg Jaw...it may have come from a Polish princess, you may be right, but what caused it to be so apparent and so famous for centuries is the constant inbreeding and marriage of nieces to uncles that occurred in the Habsburg family.
A recessive trait like that shouldn't have been seen more than once or twice per generation, but by Charles II's reign, half the family had that jaw.

Actually the more we look into the issue, the more we realize that ugliness and attractiveness is not nearly as subjective as most people think. There does seem to be a universal recognition of what is good and bad looking, regardless of culture or upbringing.

ok, can you tell me what those are?

Habsburg jaw came from prognathism due to the Habsburg habit of politically motivated inbreeding.

And dwarves should have no portrait because they are too short?

This.
Seeing in my mind only the forehead and crown with the background taking 90% of the portrait space just made my day.

But yes, in general having portraits matching the traits would be better. I never found any person with the "ugly" trait being ugly.

Yes, because when The Great Snoop made a typo and said Jews, Gatkramp took offense to it, and that makes him dumb?
Seriously, how could one not see it was a typo? Mentioning Jews had nothing to do with this topic and he was discussing Habsburgs who were famous for having odd shaped jaws. Come on, common sense man.

I understand that beauty is relative, that's why I didn't comment on the attractive trait, but for someone to have the ugly trait they have to be really ugly, not just unattractive. So I suggested a deformed face, which must be universally ugly.

By the logic of the people posting above, there shouldn't even BE attractive, ugly, strong, genius, quick, slow, etc. traits in the game, because it "offends" some people, or beauty is "on the inside" or "subjective".
NO. As TheGreatSnoop clearly demonstrated with his picture above, there are universal cultural indicators of what beauty is. Facial and body symmetry and aesthetics, and a lack of deformations determine beauty, not hair color, eye color, or skin color. Thus albso437's argument is rendered moot.
Facial and body symmetry, aesthetics, and good proportion are all OBJECTIVE, scientifically proven.

DING DING DING! We have someone here who won the price of not knowing crap! Unless an actual deformity, people's beauty is not someone that is considered widespread the same thing all around the globe. I suggest opening a history book and actually reading about things that were considered beautiful once upon a time but might not be anymore.

The one woman to nullify all your arguments. The painting and the photograph are both roughly a hundred years ago of cultural change, from now, shifting in from what one generation might consider beauty, to what the other might find dull, ugly or even straight out scary. I present to you, Swan-necks.

(It is interesting to know, that not only was she considered beautiful, but THE most beautiful woman in the world at the time by westerners.)

And who shall be the judge?
Your taste, my taste or perhaps what we think was considered beautiful/ugly in the CK era?

Personally I prefer blonds, and as there are hardly any blonds in CK I've come to the conclusion (by using your logic) that the vast majority of females in the game should be given the ugly trait...

I prefer blondes in my game, i try to always get my king or queen married to a blonde. Like you said i prefer them because there isnt many of them.

Hello! You know how in the ruler designer, the different facial options are numbers? How about putting "matching" facial parts in closer numbers, so that if the numbers someone had were really close, they'd be attractive because it fit the face right. But if someone had like, number 1 nose with number 9 ears and number 7 eyes they'd get the ugly trait, because it looks all weird. If it was in between they don't get a trait. Also get rid of the fatty faces and instead make a fat version for each facial thing so that if they get the gluttonous trait they become fat. Also give the ability to customize your hair and beard to make yourself nicer looking :D

Certain beuty ideals, which are mostly cultural and temporal peculiarities, change through time, while others, like the ones mentioned in the quote, don't, as they are signs of a person's health or fertility and as such people tend to view them as attractive/unattractive due to the reproductive instinct.
