It is a graphics bug, its actually the sprites for the straits which lingers on the screen for an extra second or so.
Try exiting the game when you have The Sund clearly in view and you'll notice it..

(And yes, it looks like 3 flying saucers so it was a fun joke to let it be around.)

You saw no UFOs. Those were Venus reflecting off swamp gas. Forget this conversation - it never took place. Fnord.
