This will be fanfic based around the events of U-511(Note: Characters and events are not what actually happened to U-511). The impact this U-Boot will make on the actual war will be limited, but may cause minor changes. I will not inform you of anything going on that the Captain or crew would not know. You will have to fill in what you know about war around it.
But now, to our story...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Captain Fritz Jenkins, 26, walks out of his home at 0300 9 December, 1941. The cold wind nips at his nose as walks out towards the sea. He pulls his overcoat over his neck to keep warm, remember the scarf his mom gave him last night and wraps it around his neck. He quickly tucks his hands into his coat pocket and continues towards the dock. He will be meeting his crew onboard the U-boot, there will be no going off party, it is to early and too cold. As he turns a corner he can see the dock lights flickering off the sea. He looks down to his pocketwatch to see the time, 0314, he hastens his pace. He is supposed to be out of the harbor by 0400.
When he reaches the U-boot he can see the crewmen begin throwing the lines off to launch. Jenkins walks across the walkway and steps down on the deck. 'No, not just the deck, my deck.' He remembers his experience in training, the Captain failed to perform a effective dive and Jenkins was forced to take over and save the training U-boot. That gave him the chance he needed, the following tests he proved he deserved a U-boot of his own.
He snaps out of his daze and runs his hand along the side of the coning tower, "U-511," he reads the numbers off the side. He proceeds up the ladder, and stands atop his U-boot.
"Captain, were cast off and ready to go!" First Watch Officer Heinz Meyer says to him.
Jenkins tucks his hands back into his pockets, "Ahead 1/3." Meyer echoes his order down into the U-boot command room. Jenkins can hear the diesal engines roar to life and the boot rocks forward. Jenkins turns to Meyer, "Tell me when we are out of port."
"Yes Captain!"
Jenkins climbs down the ladder and watches over the control room.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Captain Jenkins climbs the ladder to look out into the sea. He looks behind the U-boot and can see the lighthouse in the distance used to mark the exit of the harbor. A shiver runs up his spine and he tucks his hands into his pockets. He looks to see who is currently on watch: Second Watch Officer Otis Kalhoun, Seamen Henrich Aachen, Thorik Kaufmann and Tobias Eisenberg. He watches as Eisenberg shivers in the cold winds of the sea waters.
"Captain ship spotted!" Kaufmann yells to him.
Jenkins grabs his binoculars, "Whats location?"
"Ship spotted at 350 degrees, long range," Kaufmann then points in a general direction to give some aid to the captain. He then raises his binoculars to continue viewing the ship.
Jenkins brings up his binoculars to the location Kaufmann specified. Indeed, he can see a ship, but he cannot tell whose ship it is. It is far to dark to see a waving flag on it. He lets his binoculars hang at his neck and climbs down the ladder, "Make sure you keep an eye on that Kaufmann!" He says while decending.
"Yes sir!"
Jenkins reaches the command room and goes over to Geoff Mueller, the radioman at his station. "Geoff, i need you to radio in if there is any German vessal near our current location."
"Yes Captian," he begins sending out a message, Jenkins walks back into the control room.
"Make sure torpedo room is ready for immediate orders."
"I will check myself sir!" Jenkins can hear Meyer go runnnig through the ship towards the torpedo room.
Jenkins yells up to the watch crew to be ready in case he needs them to man the deck gun. "Geoff have we heard anyresponse from port?" Geoff shakes his head no.
Meyer comes running back from the torpedo room, "Sir, bow torpedo room fully functional, radio contact is also set up."
Jenkins goes over to the map to double-check their location, 'ya, were only two hours out to sea, we cant be that far out. It must be one of ours.' He climbs the ladder to get another look at the ship. Its getting lighter out, but still not light enough to recognize a flag.
"Sir, the ship is British! Its a destroyer!"
Jenkins raises his binoculars and truth be told, it is a destroyer. "Shit! Prepare to dive, hope to god it hasent seen us." He slides down the ladder he runs to his navigator, "Gilbert, what is the depth beneath keel?"

anonymous: its based on one of my submarine floatilas, so it may suddenly sink, which in that case could end its being based on a sub.
german general: im using knowledge from all sorts of areas, silent hunter 3 just happens to be one of the areas.
Lutzow: Nazi Moon Base will continue!!!!

Jenkins orders the ship to dive, and after closing the hatches the u-boot begins to sink beneath the waves.
Geoff calls him over, "Captian, Kiel reported we've engaged a British armada, they are dispatching Luftwaffe to aid us."
He walks over to the periscope and looks through it, he can see the destroyer steaming towards their location, "damnat! They've seen us! Crash Dive!" He can hear Meyer and Kalhoun yelling out orders while others brace for the steep incline. He can hear the electric engines start up just before the ship lurches to the left.
"Its shooting at us!"
Another lurch, throws Jenkins against the periscope, he falls to the ground unconscience.

Upon awaking he realizes that he is laying on his cot, he quickly gets up and goes out into the control room. He looks around and before he says anything Gilbert tells him that they are silent running. He takes his posistion in the control room next to the periscope, though the periscope will not help them. He leans over to Meyer and whispers, "Have they pinged us yet?"
He nods, "they stopped about a minute before you came to."
The entire ship begins pinging as the destroyer sweeps the ocean for the u-boot. Geoff whisper, "Splashes in the water. There dropping depth charges."
Jenkins listens intently...boom...boom....boom...they are to shallow to do any damage. "Dont worry lads, they are too shallow."
BOOM!!!! The entire ship rocks, everyone standings is thrown about, Jenkins knocks into Geoff at the radio station. BOOM!!! The ships rocks again, pipes errupt in the room, water is spraying everywhere. Jenkins grabs onto a beam, "Get covers on those leaks now!" BOOM!!! The ship rocks agian and more water veins errupt. Jenkins picks up the radio for connection to the electric room, "whats the damage?"
"Sir,...were leaking water everywhere!"
"Do what you can, we'll send help," he looks around the room and goes running up towards the crews quarters. Men run past him, he continues running past the quarters to the torpedo room. He opens the hatch and is hit with a burst of water, it throws him to the ground. When he stands up he can see the men are struggling to close a water vein. He runs over and picks up another cover and starts applying it to the vein.
"Captain, we just sealed off three others, we taking too much water up here."
Jenkins yells, "damnat, if we dont stop this leak and pump this water out we are going to sink, i can already feel the ship leaning forward." The crewmans eyes go wide and he starts adjusting his cover again. Once Jenkins secured his cover he runs over to the radio, "Meyer, you need to raise the boat to 100meters, otherwise we are going to start to sink."
"But sir, that will put us right in the danger zone of the destroyer."
"Well we sink now or we hope we dont sink later."
"Aye sir!"
Jenkins puts the radio down just as a water vein bursts above him covering his face with seawater. "Shit!"

Captain Jenkins grabs for a cover but a sailor grabs it before him then turns to him. "Sir, you have to get out of here, if we dont stop these leaks soon, we will have to seal the room."
"Do what you can! Ill have a water pump sent down." Jenkins runs through the ship to get to the control room. He can see the depth meter reading 123. He watches as it lowers to 124, then 125 and then 126. "We need a water pump sent to the forward torpedo room!" He hears an 'aye aye' before Geoff calls him over to the radio.
"Captain, weve recieved word that the destroyer was crippled by a Stuka and is currently listing at least 15 degrees to port. Heavy smoke was also reported."
Jenkins gives orders to prepare to surface, "we need to stop going down and go up." Meyer gives the order to blow ballast and send the U-boot to the surface. Jenkins can hear sailors hoping and praying that the destroyer is destroyed.
"75 meters, sir!"
Jenkins orders Second Watch Officer Kalhoun to prepare a team to man the gun. "If its smoking enough, we may still need to finish her off."
"30 meters!"
"Sir we have recieved word that the Stuka's have sunk the destroyer!"
A cheer rises through the boat, Jenkins among them. The boat surfaces and Jenkins and the watch step out onto the conning tower to observe the sea. He can see a two British life rafts floating above bubbly white seawater.
"Sir, we have recieved orders to retreve any survivors from the destroyer."
Jenkins has the U-boot stop engines and crew come up from below deck. Three men carry MP-40s while the rest pull out rescue lines and throw them to the life rafts. Since there is no room to put this many prisoneers onboard, Jenkins orders the rafts tied to the side of the boat. He then orders the armed men to watch to make sure no British sailors make a run for it.
"Meyers, set course for port, we need to take these men back to shore."
"Aye aye sir!"
Jenkins begins counting the British prisoneers, 37, no way they would have fit in the boat. He can hear the diesal engines roar to life and the rear of the ship begin producing bubbles. "Keep an eye on em." He says to the watch.
The salute as he begins down the ladder into the U-boot.
"Sir, we should dive now." Kalhoun remarks, this produces a laughter that echoes through the command room, even Jenkins laughs.

Yes, not really the kind of vessel that can take on POWs. Good idea for an AAR.

After arriving in port, the British sailors were taken ashore. Jenkins and his crew were landlocked until repairs could be finished. Fritz Jenkins, not being the kind to just sit at home, decided he would continue learning about the U-boot and how to better repair it by taking what he could of the engineer classes in the Kreigsmarine.
December 11, 1941, before he could even enroll in a class, he heard a very disturbing radio announcement when he was at home. It was one that Jenkins knew would doom the German nation, and doom the U-boot threat, Hitler had declared war on America.
Realizing that this would greatly reduce his chance of returning home, Fritz decided he would spend his time of leave with his parents and his brothers.

On January 2nd, Jenkins leaves his home to head back out to sea. He was able to spend Christmas and New Years with his family, and then ordered to return to sea on January 2nd. As he steps out into the dark streets, his can see a stray dog running through the streets. He begins walking towards the docks. Upon arriving at U-511, he can see where the damaged was fixed, he also notices the new deck gun, the old one had been shredded by the depth charges. As he makes his way onto the boat, crewmen begin throwing off lines. As he steps onto the ladder to climb up the conning tower he can feel the diesel engines start up.
"Welcome aboard captain," Meyer says to him, "Shall we head out to sea?"
"Yes," Jenkins nods, "Yes we shall."
