I currently have "-80 Tyrant" because I may or may not have executed a bunch of foreign prisoners after a Jihad was declared against me. Not sure why that pissed off my orthodox vassals, but whatever.

ANYWAY it's been 18 years and the modifier has not gone away. I'm pretty sure I haven't done anything tyrannical to re-acquire the penalty in that time; as people in my realm under the age of 18 don't have the modifier.

I do not have the conclave DLC, but this happened after the patch which came out at the same time. As far as I know the "tyrant" thing is supposed to go away after 10 years and I really don't want to spend the rest of this character's life (they're only 30) putting down rebellions.

Did the decay on tyrant change, or is this a bug of some kind?
If I fix it with console-commands or save-editing will that disqualify my ironman save from getting achievements?
Is there a less cheaty way to fix it?

For some insane reason they changed the tyrant modifier in 2.5 to now last for 30 years.

So not a bug, and there is no way to make it go away faster.

Certainly not in an ironman game (console is disabled and the saves are encrypted so no editing).

And the funny thing is, you got this penalty for executing infidels in a war. That's ridiculous. Sooner or later the current dev team is just going to code in a ticking increasing tyranny score as time goes on.

Incurring tyranny from executing prisoners from another faith/realm has been confirmed as a bug: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...-executing-prisoners-from-other-realm.912556/

I hadn't realized that they changed the duration from 10 years to something ridiculous like 30 or 40. I have to wonder what they were thinking. Under the 10 year timer, if you did something else to incur tyranny, it would add to the current opinion modifier and the timer would reset. Now that it's as long as it is, it's essentially for the life of your ruler - and then some, thanks to "opinion of predecessor."

One more change that nobody asked for. Seriously, is there a group of developers tasked with coming up with ways to make the game less fun?

Well, the foreign prisoner tyranny is a bug.

But why are you so worked up about tyranny in the first place? At least now you can do something about tyranny to prevent factions from forming or being dangerous.

You can literally rule a realm with -100 relations to every single vassal if you want. Why would that be less fun?

I "can do something about tyranny to prevent factions?". What might that be? Keep in mind that this change was introduced by the 2.5 patch and I don't own the Conclave DLC. Spymaster missions to discourage factionalism aren't that reliable. I don't have a problem with a little tyranny now and then, but that was with a 10 year duration...now it's "now and forever."

You can literally rule a realm with -100 relations to every single vassal if you want. Why would that be less fun?

Good luck passing any laws.

I don't actually know what features are in the DLC and not in the DLC. I'm assuming that there is no council for your to use to shield yourself from tyranny.

I suppose you could just do what we did before Conclave: imprison people and not care about the tyranny, mass revoke, and then spawn in new people to replace them. It should still work. The new people you spawn in won't recognize your tyranny.

Good luck passing any laws.

Well, since I'm guessing you don't have a council, you can't buy favors or request council support to pass laws. It's what I would do.

If you don't have Conclave, what laws are there to pass? No council laws, obviously, but is crown authority the same?

Unfortunately I think that this is yet another "hey, we changed this so it would work best with the DLC, but neglected to see how it would work on the vanilla game" type of thing. 30 years is ridiculous, especially for things like "went against your council as a child". Does anyone *really* think that people remember something as trivial as "handing out counties against the will of the council when you were 4 years old" when you're approaching your mid-30s?

I've been waiting for the patches to settle down before I change the duration back to where it was before through mods...

edit: By the way, don't die because your new ruler will ALSO have a -40 (I think?) penalty in addition to the new ruler ones. Because obviously vassals are going to be pissed that your dad did something 20 years ago.

To be honest tyranny is not needed at all to rule a kingdom. I never encountered myself in a situation where I needed to do certain acts that incurs in this penalty. Unless you have a tribal council that doesn't allow to do anything without their permission, ofc.

In my humble opinion, as a moderator who is empowered to speak on behalf of the game developers, this strikes me as something you might want to familiarize yourself with before handing out advice to players.

Except that's not a moderator's job. I only police the forum. I'm not some mouthpiece for the game developers.

You might say that I need to know more before giving game advice, but that would apply to anyone, not just a moderator.

Unfortunately I think that this is yet another "hey, we changed this so it would work best with the DLC, but neglected to see how it would work on the vanilla game" type of thing.

Maybe they just assumed that all the old strategies would work in the new situation? The 30 year tyranny seems a little odd for those who do not have Conclave enabled, though.

Regardless, though, the execution penalty for foreigners is a bug anyway.

But that's the thing, they changed the opinion modifiers to make the game harder, and then brought out the DLC to make managing a realm possible with the changes. So now gifts are pretty much worthless, as are honorary titles. However, it means that for people without the DLC, it's frustratingly hard to manage your realm...

Yeah, playing the game without Conclave is a significant difficulty boost and another sign that 2.5 was not properly balanced and still isn't after the revisions in play. Compare the balance of this patch to the one where Way of Life (ignoring all the terrible bugs and issues that came with WoL) was introduced. WoL was never this necessary. The only other DLC that even comes close to Conclave in this area is Legacy of Rome; and that's less applicable with retinues nerfed.

2.5 went completely out to left field in terms of design direction and it violated their DLC philosophy; that DLC was a nice supplement rather than a nearly necessary expansion pack. Most of the nerfs (many of which are still poorly thought out even with Conclave running) should have been attached to the DLC rather than 2.5.
