Hi @Tuscany and the CK2 Team,

As the title says, would you consider adding a tag that allows gender laws to allow/disallow matrilineal marriage without affecting the entire religion? Right now, I'm trying to make a mod that disallows matrilineal marriage if you have Agnatic succession, by adding "set_allows_matrilineal_marriage = no" to Agnatic Succession in common/laws/succession_laws.txt.

At the beginning of the campaign, this works great; nobody with agnatic succession can matrilineally marry. That is, until the AI selects Agnatic-Cognatic succession, which has the tag "set_allows_matrilineal_marriage = yes". This appears to affect all followers of that religion, not just the realm in which that particular gender law applies (same applies when I set the bool to "no", in that the entire religion cannot matrilineally marry).

So in my case, I'm Catholic, and I have Agnatic succession. I can't matrilineally marry (which is good). But once any one of the AI Catholic rulers changes their gender law to Agnatic-Cognatic, I'm suddenly allowed matrilineally marrry in my agnatic-only realm, because that tag affects the entire religion (which is bad).

I would like to see a tag, allowable in common/laws/succession_laws.txt, that allows/prohibits matrilineal marriage only for the realm that the law applies to, and not change the entire religion across the entire world.

Thanks for you time!

I believe that there are Catholic realms at all start dates with Agnatic-Cognatic succession. The game tends to default to that for Christian titles for counts and above, unless the title was clearly and consistently agnatic historically, such as the Carolingian kingdoms and France. If a single agnatic-cognatic kingdom allows matrilineal marriage, then you should always have access to matrilineal marriage, except under very limited circumstances. The issue may be that you are arranging marriages with agnatic-cognatic courts, as the majority of counties and duchies are agnatic-cognatic. Or, it may be a bug somewhere else.

That's kind of the issue I'm addressing; I think matrilineal marriage should be realm-specific, or at least allow the realm law to supercede blanket conditions imposed by religion/government and not affect realms that are not subject to your laws.

The way the mechanics in vanilla work, is that Muslim religions, nomads, and a few other things block matrilineal marriage, and the only way to get it is to enact Notable or Full Status of Women laws and switch gender law from agnatic to agnatic-cognatic. But doing this affects the entire religion, because the tag changes the "no" for matrilineal marriage to a "yes". So if I'm Sunni, and I acquire the appropriate Status of Women law and switch to a gender law that allows matrilineal marriage, it will enable matrilineal marriage for ALL Sunnis in the game regardless of gender law.

So basically, a one-holding county across the world from you can unlock matrilineal marriage for your entire religion (if it forbids it) and you will have access to it too.

What I'd like to see is some kind of tag, even if it's not implemented in vanilla and is just for modders, that would enable matrilineal marriage for just that realm, and not make global changes to religion/government.
