Two weeks after CS launch, game still won´t work...

The same problem most people have been reporting here lately.

The launcher is not working, and attempting to run the eu4.exe does nothing.

Already deleted everything manually, succesfully valitaded files, reinstalled, reinstalled DX, game just won´t work.

If I go back to 1.11.4 I can play without issues, however I can´t make use of the new 20USD DLC you sold me.
Games works on 1.11.4, and doesn't on 1.12, so it's pretty obvious there's something wrong on the latest patch.

Specs:
Phenom X4 955 BE@ 3.8Ghz
8GB DDR3@1600Mhz
MSI R6850 Cyclone@stock clocks
Win 7 (Spanish language)
All drivers, DX, .net up to date.

It's been two weeks now, I'm not at all happy about this.
I've worked for several multinational companies as an IT specialist, and if I ever took more than a couple of days to fix broken things all hell broke loose, so I would love a solution that won't include the same copy/paste "reinstall".

Same here, I have same problem with game. I can play 1.11.4, but can't 1.12.
I was able to play EU4 1.12 when Common Sense was released but I had to to play 1.11.4 since save files didn't work on 1.12

If you have Evolve on your pc, it might cause EU4 to not function. Try turning everything with Evolve off and it might be working for you. We found out this after alot of trials and erros.

How is that even possible?

In any case I don't own Evolve, and I have 75 games currently installed on Steam, plus a few more outside of Steam, I'm not going to just uninstall that many games, do you have any idea what else might be?
Another 2K game maybe? Bioshock 2, CiV?

If it's another 2K game, it's probably not Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-sequel, Civ V, or Civ Beyond Earth, as I have those and they're not giving me trouble. Something based on the same engine (CryEngine 3) might be the culprit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_CryEngine_games

That Evolve thing is weird, because it directly contradicts one thing that has helped some people with this problem - actually running another game (like DoTA, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology) then starting EU4 while that is running.

For reference, here is the current procedure I have, that usually helps:

- move any valued save games elsewhere (this is important!)
- "delete local content" in Steam-EU4
- in the Steam Workshop, un-subscribe from ALL mods
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox/EU4
- go to the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all patches it wants to - especially .NET updates (this is important!)
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

IF the game starts OK then, move save games (from 1.12.x games ONLY) back into the save folder and test again.
IF still OK, then re-subscribe to mods - but ONLY those that have been updated to be compatibly with 1.12.x

About three weeks now since CS release, still nothing but the same copy/paste answer...

There's nothing wrong on my end, once again, I'm an IT guy, I double and triple checked everything, I went and did all the steps as you advised several times, and I NEVER used any mods, at all.
You guys need to release a hotfix for this, which given the fact that you're going on vacation I'm afraid is not coming for a while.
So if that happens you just lost a very loyal customer.

I've fixed about 95% of cases of this problem with that process, I would estimate. So I think it's worth me pasting it into each case that comes up, wouldn't you agree?

Do you have access to any other machine, so we can confirm it's isolated to this machine? If that works out, we might do a Steam reinstall to.

Oh, if you exit Steam, set eu4.exe to run as Admin and execute it manually - anything different happen?

it is not the game evolve but the vpn client that causes problems.
