Main concept: build armies, conquer provinces. Limited diplomacy. More province enhancements available than in most of paradox's games, but this makes it somewhat tedious (none cost much gold, so to play 'properly' you need to spend half your time clicking on provinces).
Patches: no. It appears to have been abandoned to its fate. It doesn't really need much in the way of bug-fixing patches, more a reworking of some of its features. Notably:
- ship-building is next to impossible if you're at war with someone who has naval superiority
- difficulty level needs to be significantly enhanced, both in terms of AI ability and the general cost of everything. There is no army maintenance, armies are relatively cheap to acquire, and the one feature which could 'slow' a player (needing to keep the 4 classes happy) is under-utilised.
Map: nothing like EU2. It's very 'textured' (I find it quite ugly, myself), and only covers France and England (with a few surrounding provinces: Ireland, Scotland, and some in Spain).

I would say it's only good for MP... except I've never actually managed to play MP with anyone, so I can't really say that
