Hi folks,

Finally I was able to play Megacorp and finally Stellaris starts to feel like a Paradox game, at least the way I see them.

But yesterday in my playthrough something strange happened and I would like to ask if I am encountering bugs/ balancing issues and should lay it aside for 1-2 weeks.

Occurance 1: Okay, my first war in the “Corvette” Era. I met a militaristic Alien Empire and it was hate on first sight. So, I started to secure my border and beefed up my military, but it was too late: War was declared while my fleet was in complete disarray, flying through my empire on the way of being upgraded.

So, he wants my border system and I made myself ready to get my fleet together to meet the invading fleet after a trail of Destruction through my empire.

But nothing happened. After months of regrouping, I reached the border system with no enemy in sight. His Warscore ticked slighty faster than mine, so I knew I need victories, even though his fleet strength was superior. There was only one way into the Empire, so I figured I should capture as many systems as possible before meeting the fleet halfway for a showdown that would decide the war.

So, I captured the whole arm without being attacked. Anyway, it doesn´t help me much because his Warscore still ticked a bit faster. So I arrived at his only world: A Gaja World, and sent a Corvette in to Scout. I found his fleet, slightly bigger than mine, would have been a tough battle, but winnable. With his Starbase though, it would have been a lost course. So I passed the world and went on my way for his other Starbases. I figured that when my Science ships analyzing debris right next to the homeworld the enemy fleet would likely pick them off, or at least tried to catch my replacement Corvettes (they HAD to pass the homeworld) but that was a risk I had to take, Warscore was ticking with me at the disadvantage and my fleet was dwindling from the regular battles against the Outposts.

Reaching his Starbase, I found another fleet, weaker than mine, but added with his main fleet there would not be a great chance for me to beat them. There was a battle with the second fleet, I won, and finally overtook his warscore. So I captured more Outposts still he settled for a status quo which won me the entire arm from the beginning and he got nothing.

I am very curious why the AI didn´t do anything. They could get me on the first arm in a choke point, they could attack me in the Empire, hell, on the offensive he could have burned through several worlds before me even arriving. He also sat there like a dug while single reinforcement passed through the neighboring system and Science Ships picking up debris in the neighboring systems without any protection whatsoever.

Is there a passive AI bug I should know about or was it just a case of stupid AI? Why did he declare war without doing anything.

Occurance 2: While my heroic corvettes burned through the enemy empire in a war, in the south there was a spiritual Empire and a Hive Mind. There was growing tension and a war between them I not really cared about. But after my war I looked at both Empires, only to figure out that there were 2 Hiveminds now, the changed Empire was even ruled by the Species the Hive Mind consisted off. But they were two separate entities. How is this possible? How can a Hive Mind convert an Empire, setting his Species as the ruling species but having this Empire as an independent Hive Mind? Am I missing something?

Thanks a lot and have much fun with Megacorp.

Keep on gaming,

Dennis

The AI is broken right now, many folks have reported it and I encountered a similar instance to yours. In my case the AI declared war and used a smaller fleet to pick off some of my border outposts while I hid my fleet behind a beefed up starhold. He wisely avoids it and soon retreats to his lines, war exaustion is going against me so i pool my credits and get a small merc force together to raid him back. Long story short, the merc force cuts his empire in half with 0 response on his part. I am then able to lay siege to a planet next door to his capital with a 6K fleet while he idles with his 10K fleetpower in orbit of said capital.

I'd say the AI is not up to the task right now. I'm primarily learning how to play the economic game right now waiting for everything to get sorted out.

I hope they'll tell us what the problem is/was. If its an economic hangup. I.e. the AI won't undock their fleet if they can't maintain solvency even if it means losing the war or if they get stuck trying to path into a fortified hermit empire and bluescreen.

Could also be that they're just stupid in general. One of my enemies was fighting a two front war. On the one side (me, pacifist, 6k fleet) raiding some worthless systems. The other side (devouring swarm, 10k x 2 fleet) laying siege to his core worlds. Guess who he responds to?
