1) I see that some people say that he was horrible and that he knew nothing of the game. This is EXACTLY the people that you want to get excited and buy the game, if you want to have DLCs and expansions of the game. Keep calm and just help these people out, but for God's sake do not get angry or frustrated with them. We all need them.
2) Being a total Battletech ignorant myself, but a large turn-based games fan, I watched quite a lot of Amaro's multiplayer videos, so I already knew quite a lot of the innovative tactics like side-rotating and what the evasion markings are and what quite a lot of things do in battle, but the average player cannot be expected to have that knowledge beforehand. I watched Kohh's stream for 45 minutes (I am out of time today) and I found the tutorial quite lacking to be honest. A nice example was the evasion, where there was a pop-up message informing the player that the further he moves the more evasion he aquired, but there was no mention for the INDICATORS of said evasion and what each bar of evasion stands for, so the streamer missed those markers completely until he either noticed that he lost a bar of evasion after being shot at - or he read it from some comment on his Twitch chat. Another thing was the called shot. The streamer was flabbergasted to have it appear after a knockdown and he didn't even know which was a good target to go for (Central torso for the win) and I highly doubt that "two legs down = kill" rule was - or will be - in the tutorial.
A quick fix for those things for HSB could be the corresponding indicators of each thing mentioned in the tutorial pop-ups to briefly flash or change colours to attract the player's attention to them.
So, above all, patience. The players that know nothing about the game are the ones that will be crucial to the success of the game. I know that most people here are backers or old tabletopers or fans of the novels or all those things, but attracting new people is always a test to one's endurance, but a rewarding one if you can pass it.
P.S.
I am getting pumped for a pre-order. The streams ARE working.
