I'm not sure how many positions are still available, but I'd like to get involved. If you want me, here is a list of my preferred positions, in descending order of wantingness:

1. A Soviet theatre commander, preferably North/Leningrad Front if it's available.
2. Soviet theatre commander, Central/Byelorussian Front.
3. EDIT: Damn, missed it. I'll take the Soviet Chief of Staff then, assuming I don't get sacked in the first month.
4. Head of Government or Head of State of anybody, assuming I'd be working in close co-ordination with whoever's playing the game, and not actually playing it myself. Basically the right-hand man, or Minister of Second Opinions
5. The head of an Axis minor (HoS, HoG, or CoS), but I suspect that they'll be militarily controlled and thus under the purview of the German Chief of Staff, right?

Don't worry about my writing contributions, I can take care of it, and keep up with the writing of anybody here. Check out my sig if you're skeptical.

BTW, what's up with the HoS and HoG split? Shouldn't Germany's HoS be the one playing the game, facing off against the Soviet HoG? The Soviet HoS would have practically nothing to do but report on his latest rubber-stamping, though the German HoG might be busy. I can try my hand as the Soviet HoS, though I suspect I'd be quite bored.

HoS & HoG are played by the same player - they coordinate the actions of their ministers more than anything else. (I'll actually be the one "playing", just requiring a player to take the other side for a little bit every few days until something that would require consulting a player comes up, at which point we pause and post what happened. It's easier to have one player trying to set up a multiplayer game with anyone else participating than have only two do it.) Keep in mind that any Minister can also occupy another non-minister position (like commander of an army sub-group), so just because there's nothing going on in the ministry doesn't mean that you have to sit around doing nothing - since the military aspect will have more going on than the non-military, I imagine that there won't be any pure ministers out there at all.
Also the list in the first post is basically always up to date - if you see a post me, every application above it has been added and delt with. With that in mind, do you still want Chief of Staff?

Sure, I can take it. :)

Just for clarification's sake: The HoS/HoG will be in overall command. The Chief of Army will be moving the units. I'll be deploying them...but won't the HoS/HoG have a say in deployments too? And would I be in charge of setting offensive supply and strategic redeployments? Who's in charge of controlling the economic sliders? Would I have a say in re-enforcements and upgrades?

Just making sure I understand the limits of my authority going in. And if I could also arrange to be Soviet armaments minister at a later date, it would help to flesh out my role considerably.

Well at the moment I'm primarily concerned about the big positions. Once those are claimed (I'll give another day or so before people can claim two), then the Germans will start giving their deployments so I'll be able to give the starting situation for units. (At the moment I'm playing around with IC levels and such since a nice amount of German activity isn't on the map, so Ministers should be able to start with that stuff soon as well.) The moment the units are up players can start giving sub-commanders units and say what divisions their soldiers are in (I'll update positions of those units to make keeping track of their activity easier).

Could I recommend some rules ...

An "Axis" or "Germany" thread for the germans to discuss, and then a "Comintern" or "Soviet Union" thread for the Russians to discuss in. Also, could it be that the game can't be played too extremely wit hthe Germans all the way at Sverdlovsk by December 1941, rather they have to stop near Moscow and germans can only attack from March and onwards. What will Chief of Staff be doing anyway ...

BTW, do I get to be a military leader because I am historical :D and for my picture for minister and thingie just use the one from HOI2.

I see what you mean. And it's why I friendly provok German players, hoping my sector will be not too quiet.

And I'm agree with separate thread, it's a good idea IMHO.

Well I was planning to have one each for the AAR part (maybe not; I'm not 100% sure yet). I'm not sure if the discussion threads are really needed - other than production you'd probably want to keep those to PMs anyways. ;)
I'd be fine having them around if they're used, but I'm worried that it'll be a bit much for the mods' tastes (four or five threads for the one AAR). Maybe I could place discussion threads in OT with a link in here for easy access - that might work.

Sure it can. Those Soviets aren't getting a free ride on my watch. ;)
Really, the bit where the Germans come in and stomp the Soviets in a lot of AARs is only because the Soviets are AI. Since that's not the case, I don't think I'll be awarding a handicap, especially since losing Moscow won't mean you lose the game - you can still fight on, and those partisans are going to seriousally hurt the German TE.
Walter Model said:

Distributes newly built units to the Army Groups. The only reason he isn't doing it for Germany's initial setup is that this is a planned operation, not a bunch of newly constructed units being placed on the front.

*Everyone* can have a military leader. The Germans just need to be patient until their units are set up so leaders have units to command. :p

Sorry, I guess I missed this.
The HoS/HoG leads the side and coordinates everything. Officially he can't do much at all (events will come along that might be his to take care of, but they're probably going to be uncommon), although I'm sure that his orders will have a bit of power to them so no-one does their own thing and ignores the rest of the group, hurting the entire side. He sets the general policy of the nation, leaving the specifics up to the other ministers.
For example, he might order the Central Army reinforced with more armor (although I'm presuming that such "orders" would be rare - he'd be more a mediator than anything else). The Armaments Minister has to build at least some armor, and the Chief of Staff will have to give some of that to the Central Army.
They can try to twist it around a little bit if they really wanted, but I'm hoping things like this don't go on too much. The HoG will have a veto of sorts, but he'd better use it sparingly or he won't be HoG very long. ;)

As for the other bits, I'm going to divide that up between Chief of Staff and Armaments Minister. I updated the first post to show this - essentially the Armaments Minister controls what goes on at home, while the Chief of Staff controls how it gets to the front.

Thistletooth said:

We'll see. If there are positions open I might allow a multi-Ministery Minister, but understand that I'm going to have to put a limit on that so later players don't get locked into little nothing positions. Hopefully it won't get too crowded though.

Anyways, just an FYI:
Hobbiton_Army.jpg

Editing savegames to add/modify leaders won't be a problem, and I don't think that whoever takes the other seat from session to session for the multiplayer bit will even need to mod anything since ministers, et al. are included in the savegame. I still need to set up the scenario, but changing as players come and go won't be a problem at all. I'd actually go so far as to say that it will be easier than initially setting it up. ;)

Chief of which Air Force? ;)

Actually I'm thinking of getting rid of that ministry and tying control over the air units to the Army Groups instead. You can still control a specific group of course in the same way that the Army Groups are subdivided, but I don't think a Ministry is really justified.

Anyways, Soviet Union set up. (Wow, that was fast. :D )
