I think there should be two game modes for Hoi4, historical and sandbox

In historical game-mode the AI tries to act as closely to real history as possible. So for example Japan declares war on the USA by Pearl Harbour

In sandbox, the AI tries to simply win. So using the above example, Japans AI makes a decision whether or not to invade the USA based on its calculated chances of winning.

Can the AI play all nations in the game in HOI 3 to play out what actually happened in WW II? If not, I'd certainly like to see that in HOI 4.

Features like you just described is already incorporated in many of the later DLCs of HOI3. For example, the Germans won't initiate the "Danzig or war" decision unless their forces on the border is greater than that of the Polish. Also, a event was specifically made so that Germany can't (and thus won't) invade the USSR unless their forces on the border is at a advantageous ratio compared to the Soviets.

I think he is asking that you choose an option so that if you want to railroad the game to be historic, the game will act that way. So even if Germany has less men then they will invade Poland at the correct time.

Why is it that "sandbox" is always proposed as "everything goes"? I don't want Sweden to declare war on Finland because it can win, I want Sweden to declare war because of a strong Fascist turn it its politics, joined by the rise of nationalistic sentiments which are rode to romantically justify the invasion of Finland as "getting back what we have lost".

+1

I also like the idea to have a more railroaded game mode in which, for instante, Sweden never declares war on Finland simply because it didn't happen. Or Germans DOW Poland, for instance, within November '39 when some conditions are met.

Wouldn't ahistorical mode be better served through mods? I can imagine modding out events like Danzig or Pearl Harbor that "railroad" the game and replace them with alternative events. Or ahistorical scenarios: having a fascist U.S.A that joins the Axis, f.e.

As there are many possible ahistorical settings, it will be impossible for PI to cater to most people.

I hope HOI IV will enable just moderate necessary sandbox.

For instance to be able to make larger chasey for PZ III to be able to mount 75 mm high velocity gun and things like this.

But I hope Paradox has learned so far that in case of HOI to much sandbox was never accepted .

Because if this is not true and only true show me any successful HOI addon or mode ever that made game more sandbox ? Successful one.
No, all mods and addons, and patches were always made to make more historically plausibility, which is opposite to sand.

Etire HOI III history, its addons and patxhes and mods, was a history of cleaning the sand from vanilla.

I think there should be two game modes for Hoi4, historical and sandbox

Oh look. This thread again.

Shall I even bother pointing out that this kind of request is basically asking for the devs to do twice as much work as is necessary? Shall I bother mentioning that a good sandbox design delivers plausible results, making hard-scripting unnecessary? Shall I point out that this kind of thinking leads to two poorly-made features rather than one well-made one?
