i doubt you'd be able to get something like that, if milk cows were in the game they SHOULD be something you could build they don't fit the image of something you can't build through normal means.

My 1st thought upon seeing this were the siege mortars like "Karl" or the giant railway guns :rolleyes:
Ok.
We now have a little company of units with application for "exotic" units in game:

1.Spetial historical land units-,special forces, elites....

2.Exotic,mainly to old ships like Schleswig Holestein.

3.Exotic -superhaevy peaces of artillery.

What else?

Far too slow for a cruiser, high-calibre heavy guns like a battleship (but few of them), cruiser-type armour.

Doesn't that make them, for all intents and purposes, battlecruisers? The WWI types of these had guns midway between battleships & cruisers, cruiser levels of armour but somewhat less speed.

Couldn't, perhaps, Pocket Battleships be just a variation of the BC class ingame, like CLAAs are for CLs or Super Battleships are for BBs?


Anyway, I'm hoping that twitter comment meant, at least in part, that units with brigade numbers above or below the vanilla limit (i.e. not buildable with the standard interface) will be possible. This is the golden question for some of us modders. I can continue to hope, at least.

I just hope that it would be possible to have new unit types that can be added and used in the tech interface. :D We'll see.

No. They were totally different from battlecruisers. A battlecruiser is in concept a large fast ship which makes economies of either armour or firepower for the maximum speed.

A pocket Battleship was in concept a slow medium sized ship with everything subordinated to carrying the largest possible guns on a cruiser displacement.

Some little things about Pocket battleships.

It should be added that pocket battleships did have accent on big guns,however they were fairy armoured for their displacement.
Their speed was just slightly below speed of german Hipper class haevy cruisers,around 29 knots.
Germans equiped them allso for the first time with for that time advanced thing: Seetakt radar which helped in searching for ships on the Atlantic.
It should be noted allso that KMS Graff von Spee was able to escape british cruisers matching their speed, and enter neutral harbour of Montevideo,Argentina.
Captain Langsdorf destroyed Graff von Spee in Montevideo harbour ,amongst other reasons,to prevent Seetakt radar tech came in british hands.

So ,it could be sad that Pocket battleships were realy distinctive class of ships, class that was undervalued and practicaly deleted in HOI II.

Maybe event driven units? :confused:

i'd expect this to be used to create units that can't be built through normal means using events, what i can't see is how it can used in vanilla. I can see how it can be used for mods (creating soviet guards units and SS etc) but i don't see its use in vanilla.

On pocket battleships, seeing as how we design things ourselves now, I think we should be able to design a ship that works like a pocket battleship, even if the game doesn't say 'pocket battleship.


Yes we could.
Its just question will for instance I be able to mount 280 mm guns on haevy cruiser chasey?But if I will be able,than all players will do that authomathicaly without difference.
Ok game will than give us slower ships than cruiser,but, german pockets were fast as any haevy cruiser before 1941(28.5 knots)?
And they had Seetakt radar ?

So I sopose game should have at the start properly modelled german pocket battleship design as allready present in the navy(2 ships) one in production,and as ready design if someone wants to build more.
So design should be called-pocket battleships (Panzerschiff),anavoidable.

Obviously the intent is to make special alien units that invade earth upon order from high stellar comand after someone done a WC. UFO guys :cool:

could very well be the explanation for its use in vanilla:rofl:
