I don't think it's a good idea for newbies to try to 1v1 taira, since taira has mountains and a quite good army. It might be better to have them just skip the fujiwara PU.

In addition, just in terms of japan uniting strategies, I like going PU taira -> PU fuji -> annex okinawa -> vassalize tachi in that order. Doable by ~1420. The main advantage of uniting japan is losing the horrible -50% naval forcelimit modifier.

The biggest disadvantage, when you unite Japan is ihmo, that you can't dumb all your Infamy to Japan (=Emperor). On the other hand, this feels like an exploit to me.

Poor Daimyo, an untimely dead. You *could* use this magical time-machine inventend by famous chinese alchemist H. Gwerrs called 'Savegames'...

Only thing I can think of, is that you did not choose the "Claim on Throne"-Button in the "Declare War"-Screen

Ah yes I did not know that was a button.

I do have some genric questions relating to my campaign though. First, types of ships, does the game use a rock, paper, scissor or some other method. How do i know the best type of ship to build. China is using lots of cogs and galleys.

Second, Stability, I have conquered parts of Korea and I want to keep my Stability rising. How do I know how many temples I should build?

Thirdly, I'm trying to get more money into my nation. At 3 stability I'm netting in about 20-30 gold (or whatever) every year after monthly expenses. How does one build a strong economy? Merchants? Building? Governments? There are loads of options. :(

Thanks.

I tried the japanese unification with Tachibana (bless you) first.

I managed to PU Tiara in a quick war (locked their army on Shikoku Island and went through their country) by 1402.

By 1412 I had PUed the other two nations (they didn't get any heirs, and I claimed both thrones and declared war on both the same day).

BUT despite all nations of Japan "deeply distrusted me", I simply wasn't large enough to inherit just one nation by the time my leader died (1432) although I had all nations at 200 relations, a level 6 statesman, 0.0 BB and 97 prestige.

Redone the game as Minamoto, inherited Fujiwara by 1418 and was able to vassalize and diplo-annex the other 2 by 1446. Formed Japan with 9.6 BB.

The game is much fun. Colonizing with CV went well. I have Taiwan, Okinawa, the islands north of Japan and even a beachead in Sibiria.

PS.: Europe is looking like someone hit the map made of porcelain with a hammer and puzzled it back together... just wrong :)

The Spy mission "Shogun forge claims on daimyo" can reduce shogun influence(if your shogun) by 10 each time you use and succeed with it, which will also give you a core on the province should it succeed and a CB to reclaim this province. This mission has the side effect of adding a large chunk of infamy even if it fails and isn't discovered I think you still get 3. Anyway if you don't want to tarnish relations with the other shoguns because your trying to claim throne - throne war, and sankin kotai is already enforced you could try using this.
