Currently I have diplomatic but then I have no idea? I have Tunisia as a vassal and plan a little expanding into mamluks/algiers but I have no plan what to take next.

If you plan on expanding a lot more into Muslim territories, Religious would be a good option. Admin would probably also be a good option since you're likely to need a decent amount of mercs as a relatively small nation. You'll definitely want a military idea of some kind (probably offensive) within your first 3, but make sure you don't fall behind on mil tech between about 5 and 10.

I need to know your ruler and heir stats before advising any idea. But in general, you want offensive or defensive and admin. After that, it's up to your goals. If you're conquering too many heathens, you might want to pick religious. If you want to colonize, pick exploration (for Americas) or/and expansion (for Africa). Innovative is always good. Trade helps when you are not into blobbing hard, in which case more militaristic ideas are better.

I'd pick admin just for the first 3 ideas. More mercenaries and core cost reduction. I never, ever, pick naval as a great power. You don't need it to beat anyone, all you need is more ships, simply as that. I've beaten England's fleet as Italy before, just by having lots of ships.

That's nice italy. So I'll take innovative before religious. Not sure about diplomatic ideas though. Naval? Trade? I want to dominate mediterranean sea, both military and trade. Also taking a chunk of india trade would be great.

Not true at all. Although best used as an early idea (for the tech reduction), innovative is always good. Merc cost reduction, tradition decay reduction, optimism (HUGE), advisor cost reduction and great events.

1.4 game. In 1.5, the only thing I'd change is religious earlier.
