AAR Tuscan Glory
I am Matilda di Canossa Duchess of Tuscany and Spoleto and rightful queen of Lombardy! For no longer will I let the foolish emperor or even the pope stand in my way! The Canossa family will be great it is our right!
We will soon be one of the leading powers in Europa, but first we will need an overview of our current situation:
The first thing I notice is that the pope could easily usurp the duchy of Spoleto if we don’t get at least one of the two provinces he owns in it seems that Rome itself will be the most lucrative target.
I will waste no time and declare war immediately, hoping my current army will be enough. First I order the troops to assemble and form a large force in Firenze.
But just as my army starts the march against Rome a unsuspected problem arises, Duke Alberto Azzo D´Este the II of Lombardy declare war on me! That Traitorous scum! I am then forced to make a quick decision what is most important? The war for Rome or defending against the lombardian claim on Brescia? I decide that I will finish my war against the pope first as he seems the most competent enemy.
I defeat the papal armies and take Rome for myself, but at what cost? I have lost half my force and I am fearful that the war with Lombardy is a lost one. So to secure myself I decide to hire a company of mercenary’s I decide to hire “The German band” and it proved to be the right choice! I defeated the Lombard invaders and forced them into a white peace!
After the wars are over I decide to take a look at some internal problems, more specific me being unmarried and without an heir to lead on the Canossa ambition when I am no longer here.
so I look for a man worthy to be my husband, and soon I find Svend Svendson Ylving to be worthy bastard he may be but he is still prince of Denmark and from a prestigious family.
And as the war was a bit harsh on my coffers I decided to take the money I was offered. and now with those troubles cleared I will go to rest and think about my next move
