News: The Soviet Union already falls.

I still need to put in more alternate options for late game (I have them sketched already but need to organise), but I can say that while I was test playing with the Soviet Union, I found it really entertaining following the historical path. Although it will be hard to save the Soviet Union perestroika-wise, it will be possible and a rewarding experience. Of course, you can always rule through the bayonets (and go a la World in Conflict).
Also while I was playing, for some reason Ethiopia decided to run a rampage conquest in Africa, I will have a look on its AI later but it was funny nonetheless.

I´ll suggest something:

Anyone have read the book "Red Storm" by Tom Clancy. I recommend it, it can provide good ideas about the development of WW3 between NATO and Warsaw Pact.

I'm not going to lie but I find it impossible to take anything that man writes seriously. He's too technology-focused and tends to simultaneously overestimate Soviet capability while underestimating their quality. Moreover his writings are full of MURRKA FUARK YARH and Mary-Sue-tier characters.

Which meas his projected wars are more entertaining than realistic. IMO Western Academic writing on the subject from pieces such as Soviet Military Power are more trustworthy.

Except that Red Storm Rising wasn't written like his Jack Ryan novels. Red Storm Rising is basically an updated "Third World War" and derived from a wargame he conducted with Larry Bond (who co-wrote the book), who went on to write Vortex and Cauldron. It's less "technology saves the day" and more conventional military fiction.

You will forgive me not giving much credence to a yahoo-level patriot writing a fiction book based on limited and faulty mid 1980s intelligence, and not wanting to see that bleed over into a high quality mod.

So basically you're going to judge something you've never read. Your loss.

Well I have read it, and what the grognards say is true.

That said, the Russians could always steal the Clancy playbook for their tactics, even if it wouldn't work so well for them as it did in the novel. (Clancy assumes for example that the poles just don't outright backstab the Russians asap...)

what wars will surely happen in the mod? Korean? Arab-Israeli?, Yugoslav? WW3?
WW3 surely. I thought some ideas for Yugoslavia pretty cool as well. Also, if the soviets invaded the west, I think N Korea would take its chance.
Another one I'm looking to make to play myself is Taiwan/China and another Yom Kippur type of war. Imagine what another oil crisis would cause in the world?

The entire book is essentially written as a barely plausible back story for writing about cold war naval warfare. That is where the real attention for the book should be put, as he had some help writing that from people who seem to know how naval warfare works! Definitely would recommend reading that part.
Like it or not, that book is a major influence in how many people want to play Cold War mods of that era.

Will later versions of the mod add small ship squadrons like Missile Boats and stuff?

Well I'd prefer realism and would assume most other players do. Sure, some want the MURRIKA STRIKES BACK WITH FREEDOM! game but c'mon where's the fun in that? It's as implausible as World in Conflict aka "the USSR somehow gets past the entire USN Pacific fleet and lands a self-sustaining invasion force in Seattle with unmarked shipping containers. Because the CIA just took the week off or something."

Don't you find it more fun to have a modicum of difficulty and realism?
