I think we'll see a lot more uniforms in EU3 than in EU2. My pet hate was soldiers from Mali and Ethiopia looking like Zulus.

spanish "conquistadors" all over europe had a wrong feel to it too.

Thats actually a pretty good idea. Swiss guard are quite colourful. These Turks are looking pretty mean too.

Probably didn't look like anything. The concept of a uniform wasn't quite around yet. If anything, they just made them use tabards with the Pope's emblems.

As you said these were mostly ceremonial clothes, I don't think any tailor/weaver would have time to weave intricate symbols onto felt/broadcloth for everyday use for god knows how many tens of thousands of deserting soldiers.

If you are into military uniforms, I suggest you to have a look at Harbiye Military Museum, and Sotheby's catalogs that feature "oriental" items. The academic research into ottoman military material culture is in its infancy (it begins in 1960, then a loong lacuna).
