As for Tula, well, I'm still playing EUI 1.01 right out of the box, without any patches. I just have not had any real desire to download anything to "spice it up" & my computer is a little too slow for EUII, so here I am.

Of course, I WILL have to break down & buy a new computer for HoI...;)

There are two things you should do, then...
#1 Get yourself the IGC, so you can play with every nation in the world.
#2 Hope that Theo Fleury will rebound and have a good season. :D

Agree totally. I'm up to my third GC
1st was with EU 1.01
2nd with EU 1.10 (patch is very easy to load)
3rd with EU 1.10 and IGC (IGC is easy to load, just follow the read me steps in order)

It's been more fun playing a smaller country - I'm playing Byzantium. Playing a minor is like using a scalpel, you need to be delicate and precise when you move. Very different from the sledgehammer approach I used when playing Turkey and England in my first couple of games.

P.S. C.C.R. What is HoI ?

As would say Carolus...

What he said!!! :D:D:D

To vandem:
So true. :) I've started a game with Hessen recently, and it has to be one of the greatest games I've played so far. I've done 4 or 5 campaigns so far and only two of them were successes; the others were absolute fiascos. It's more realistic that way, and it makes up for some awesome stuff in my AAR

Hmmm -- maybe I'll give it a whirl when I'm done with the game that I'm on (GC with Russia, and DAMN IT, I am going to FINISH this one!).:)

I've played around with manually editing scenarios to make minors playable, to make majors annexable, et cetera. I had a good one rolling as Brandenburg trying to unite the German states, but I got sidetracked for a couple of weeks, lost the "feel" of that game & started over on something else. Does the IGC provide any other bennies besides making it easier to set this up?

#2 Hope that Theo Fleury will rebound and have a good season.

It would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. He's going to have a ton of pressure on him to pick up the slack from Amonte leaving. My big fear is that Daze is out with a bad back again. Without him sitting in the crease, Sullivan & Nylander get bumped around an awful lot inside & are kept out on the periphery (is that a word?)...:p

I understand what you mean, anyway... ;)

I'd want to know something, btw... I've got Steve McCarthy a few years ago in my fantasy league, and I haven't heard about him since a long time... Is he still with the pro team, or has he been sent down to the AHL? I think he's not older than 22, that makes him a valuable asset... Considering the fact that you haven't too many NHL-caliber defensemen (Boris Mironov is the only one that comes to my mind, although there are others), do you think that he could play this year?

That'll be a great season! :)

Back on topic: We're talking a lot about Tula, but let's not forget about it's neighbor, Welikia... Pretty important province, if you ask me!

Ahhh, yes, Welikia -- I'm still looking for the EU function where I can build a dacha there:D

Oh, and McCarthy: He's definitely got the tools to play in the NHL, but he's not quite there yet in terms of experience. In fact, there was a big story in the paper today that he was just sent down again for another year in Norfolk. He's only 21, and it typically takes defensemen a little longer to adjust to the NHL than forwards (mostly just learning positioning). In the meantime, it's probably better that he plays 20/30 minutes a game in the minors instead of 10/15 minutes a game in the NHL.

Also, McCarthy still has a 2-way contract (NHL pay: $1.025 mil; AHL pay: $100,000), so he doesn't have to clear waivers to go back & forth -- which means that he's first in line to come up in case of injury. And it also means that the Hawks will be able to lowball him when his current contract is up.

I'd rather see McCarthy up playing on the team instead of the likes of Lyle Odelein, but hey, what do I know...:)

Not much, apparently... ;)

Nice post... With the points you just made (two-way contract, more playing time in Norfolk), it's easier to understand why he is cut. However, we have a player that is named Éric Chouinard, and each year, we have been sending him down to give him playing time. He still isn't ready to join the Habs. There comes a time when the organization has to take an initiative and give him a spot on the pro team; this way, he'll be able to perform at an elite level, and this will probably be far more useful than a 30 minutes game in the minors. In the juniors, Éric Chouinard played in the same team than fellow Québécois Simon Gagné (...), and both were equally talented. Simon Gagné was given a spot on the two first lines, and that was enough for him to become one of the best young forwards of the league. So, it would probably be profitable if, say, the Hawks traded or liberated Odelein to free some space for McCarthy...

Is hockey popular in Chicago, these days? I've heard it's really popular in Tula, which is the subject of the thread... :)
