Comrade Gey the drink you poured was not vodka. I am sure that comrade Sokolov will not be happy about your Palinka stash. He has prosecuted for much less....

Gey laughs.

Ah, Comrade Yakushev, you seem intent on slandering my name, as vodka-stained as it already may be. My name has already been cleared by the NKVD, and my past discretions noted down as being harmless. I doubt I will be prosecuted by Comrade Sokolov for possessing a variety of alcohol. If you are just desperate to have some, all you must do is ask.

In that case, comrades, it is my advice we turn to our bitter ideological enemies, the United States and the United Kingdom for trading of materials, as they are abundant in said resources that we desperately need. I will elaborate further as soon as I have time to go over the current trading of the Soviet Union.

Signed,
NK Petrova

If Comrade Petrova okays it, I will help negotiate with the capitalists of the west for a trade deal. Let's use their own resources against them. Petrova may weigh in on this, but I personally would prefer trading with them over the German Nazis, who are actively expanding in Europe to our detriment, as we saw.

I doubt, that we'll receive any supplies from the capitalists.

Gey peers at Yakushev blearily.

Oh... Oh yes! Heh, now I remember. It was quite a night, from what I can remember. I think. Heh, my apologies Comrade, I thought you were taking a crack at my favourite pasttime.

Gey passes a glass of Vodka to Yakushev.

Heh, take this as my way of apologizing. Drink and be merry my friend!

Comrade Konstantin Ivanovich,
If it wasn't for your extensive use of good Soviet Vodka, you would be a extraordinarily good NK for Agriculture. Nothing against Vodka - I love to drink some glasses too - however Vodka is not the right drink to spur one's mind. In fact Vodka spurs your story telling - every good soldier knows, that giving Vodka to captured enemies makes them more likely to betray their comrades. Your past indiscretions aren't your fault - they're the fault of your extensive Vodka drinking.

Comrade General Secretary,
Your recent letter told me, that you see no reason to vote on Defense plans - is this the case for any non-altered plans during peace on June 1 - or just for this specific plan. Also, is there a possibility for the politburo (or the according NK) to force voting despite no changes on June 1?

Members of the Politburo,
Since our beloved Comrade General Secretary stated, that there's no need to vote on my Defense proposal, the second half of 1936 will be covered by the existing decree, issued on January 1, 1936.

~ NK Julia Rakobolskaja - People's Commissariat for Defense

Fair enough comrade. Do we foresee any testing of the Red Army in the near future?

Gey gives Julia a piercing stare.

My dearest Comrade Rakobolskaja, hells that is a mouthful, I have never betrayed our beloved USSR. My indiscretions were personal, not political, matters in Pskov, that upset some of the higher-ups there. Well namely one man in particular, but that is of little importance right now. My name is clear of any sense of betrayal, and I would prefer it if you refrained from sullying my name by comparing me with traitors.

Gey's expression mellows again.

Haha, my dear Comrade, you seem much to puritan. Soviet Vodka clears the mind, when drunk well, as cigarettes likewise clear the lungs! Vodka has led to some embarressments in the past, but it also has provided much insight. And I thank-you for the praise of my work in the Commissary of Agriculture, as back-handed as the comment may be.

Do we foresee any testing of the Red Army in the near future?
Well, that depends on your department, Comrade Genrikh Gregoryevich. If you convince the world, that someone is a real warmonger and will attack us soon, if we won't, the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army is more than ready to beat anyone directly bordering us ((Manchuria would've gotten a peace treaty without the need to invade Japan IRL - the game is too total war centered to properly simulate smaller border conflicts during that time)).

Hello again comrades. I have been very busy recently with the running of Belarus, and it appears that these circumstances will continue for some time. I will not be able to join in on the discussion in the politburo in the foreseeable future. ((classes keeping me busy))

That's a shame, Comrade Chervyakov.
Make sure you run your SSR properly, as part of the future of the Soviet Union relies on your actions. You are doing a good job - make sure to keep it up.

- Major General Feodor Vasilevich Sokolov, People's Commissar for Justice

Comrade Rakobolskaja,

Can we operate the Red Army, as presently constituted, without a fresh source of supplies? If Comrades Petrova and Kamensky need time, we could revisit the issue again in 1937, if our army will not be damaged by it.

Stalin

Dear Comrades

Comrade Chervyakov, it is good to hear from you although it is regretable that you must return so soon to your duties. However, it is important work as Belarus is vital as the frontline of the Union against the Hitlerites. Good luck, and I hope to see you back in Moskva soon.

Comrade General Secretary, on my projections, it would seem that our trade representatives will be able to cope with the supply needs of the RKKA without the need for the direct intervention of Comrade NK Petrova and Comrade NK Kamensky. There will be some dips in supplies and money from time to time but not as drastic as the start of the year and any deficits will be corrected within a few days. However, in doing so, our agents are fairly indiscriminate in who they deal with and the fair Comrades NK should review options for manual trade in 1937 so that we can steer our resources away from countries who may use them against our interests ((Germany, Italy and Japan are our best trading partners)).

As a gentle reminder to the Comrade General Secretary, please ensure that you use the Revised Order of Battle ((save game)). On reflection, I have gone back to my original thought and ask that the 4 new Tank Divisions should be added to a new 10th Mechanized Corps, to be created in Olkhovka, and attached to Second Shock Army. There will be slight blip in CG but I also found a slight mathematical error in the budget which has unused 1 IC - this can be allocated to cover the blip and otherwise as per the priorities set in the Budget.

Finally, Comrade General Secretary, I wish to commend the hard work of Comrade NK Julia Rakobolskaja in preparing the Order of Battle. The Order is mostly from her hand. with only some tinkering by myself. She has been most patient in demonstrating new techniques for organising our forces and I have learnt a great deal from our discussions which bodes well for close co-operation between Defence and Stavka in the future. I request that the State award the Comrade with the Order of the Red Banner in acknowledgement of her work for the advancement of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Yours fraternally

NF Vatutin (Major General)

Comrades,

With Major General Vatutin's report, I believe I have all the information I need. Thank you all, and I will see you in January with a briefing.

((I'll go ahead and play tonight, and we can revisit the question of trade when the update is done.))

Comrade Rakobolskaja,

Apologies for missing your note. Voting and review is mandatory each year, but the mid-year review does not require a new vote for any plan which does not change. Also, per the recommendation of Major General Vatutin, I hereby present you with the Order of the Red Banner for your outstanding service. Congratulations!
