As you may have guessed, this is for enhancing the EU2 GC, mostly for historical accuracy. Thanks in advance.

have you checked out the colin mcevedy (spelling?) penguin historical atlases? the one on medieval europe has some good maps of Russia, although probably not detailed enough (almost certainly). He also has one on African history, although again probably not detailed enough.

His maps are great, though, and his writing is so funny. I never expected any value out of little one page summaries of a century (give or take) of history, but they're informative and amusing. Worth reading, at the very least, while drinking coffee in a bookstore.

Here's a site with searchable maps (mostly from the 17th century):

http://www.kb.nl/kb/galerie/indexatlas-en.html

Just type "Africa" in the Geography box and be sure to click the Search button (pressing Enter doesn't work). Once you found some maps, you can zoom in on any part of it (select a zoom level and then click on a point on the map) or download them in various resolutions. Note that these are historic maps (the nicely decorated ones), but they might be still of use (or interest) to you.
