Got enough for a first idea but is exploration worth it because of the range even to greenland , shall I go for economic instead and exploration for the second idea to get some bonuses to support colonies?
you wont have the range yet, in 1.5 fleet basing rights doesnt extend your colonial range so you'd first have to conquer Iceland. Not sure by which time you'll have the range but definately not for your first idea
You can reach North America with diplomatic level 7 and a +20% colonial range adviser. I would recommend take Exploration first and only open the first two ideas. Then you can at least get the explorers to go out and find the new world (which you will need even if you research to tech level 7).
Exploration is still worthwhile. You need to conserve your diplomatic points as much as possible to rush your diplomatic technology to 7th level. In the meantime work on uniting Ireland since the western provinces will shorten your range a little
thanks for the replies, managed to grab all the irish provinces in wars of opportunity versus england. allied with scotland as they grabbed some land and the rivals started to subsidize my economy to afford the ship to send my explorer on.
