I just hope in some cases the trust is maintained.
Imagine I own half Europe and I'm allied since start to a OPM.
It may make sense for them to keep liking me as I never attacked them and instead protected them from enemies.

If you're afraid of France as Netherlands past 1550 or so, you've been doing something very wrong, as in picking the wrong ideas or haven't been allying the right people. :)

I was playing a tall game so I hadn't expanded my borders beyond my Dutch cores and until that point I'd been focusing on ideas that gave me development discounts rather than focusing on military so France still had a huge manpower and, especially, morale lead over my armies.

When the wars with France did come, needless to say I made mince meat out of them ;) (with some help from my new Spanish allies, of course)

As I was kindly reminded in another thread, alliances are not meant to last forever; even if you stay an OPM, one of your buddies will eventually come knocking. I personally don't like it, even if it's realistic.

The problem is that WYP and WYSP are treated very differently. There is not a coherent reason for that. If backstabbing/turning on 100 trust allies is a design part of the game, why is it only happening with subject provinces?

Aside from subject provinces you'd need to rack up massive opinion hits > 150 AE to break alliances with that kind of trust. But if you get one gold mine in Mexico it's donezo. That's bizarre and not a good implementation alongside how most of it works.

Exactly. Right now it makes a difference if its your subject or your own provinces. The game pushes me to release Mexico and reconquer to avoid this = AKA go full, true one tag ballistic on my colonial nations to keep allies. I doubt this is a design intention.

And does it actually happen to AI? Portugal & Spain stay best buddies basically forever despite either one usually ending up with giant CNs with Mexican or Peruvian goldmines.
