I've repeatedly gotten the 'breaking truce -5' alert whenever I've tried to start a war on the truce-ends date, or a few days after. Is this working as intended?

I've had to wait two weeks or so after the truce officially ends for the malus alert to go away from the Declare War confirmation screen. I've never had this problem in 1.7 -- anyone else seeing this?

The timing is also inconsistent. Sometimes it takes one week, sometimes more. If I wait too long, then old claims can expire so it's kinda frustrating not knowing the precise mechanics. Also, you want to declare war before truces end and countries can enter coalitions against you again.

I thought I misclicked, misremembered or something, but now that you say you had it, I'm pretty sure I had that bug... I waited for the truce with Kaffa to end, remembered that it ends in November... Went to war at start of December, didn't see the warning and got the stab hit...

Apparently it was a performance bottleneck, so truce times are not exact and the UI has become misleading.

If you really need to time it out, reloading the game will update the status.
I see. Thanks for passing this info along.

By contrast, the trade power screen for ships is much faster now -- seems to be cached or something, instead of calculated every time like it is used to. That was a huge improvement.

But in the case of truces, since it is relatively uncommon to click the Declare War button and go to the confirmation screen, I don't see why truce timing info can't be calculated/retrieved for such cases. In other words, at least manually triggered instead of calculated every in-game day.

This issue is a big deal -- since in 1.8 coalition (re)joining and co-belligerent status for enemies is all tied in with the exact timing of truces ending. There are just so many important mechanics that require this truce timing to be absolutely precise.

I can confirm this as well. Experienced the discrepancy between truce expiration shown on alert and the declare war window. It only resolved at the beginning of the next month after the month truce was suppose to expire in.

How on earth is this a performance bottleneck? I've seen databases trash the HDD and query hundreds of millions of records in a few seconds. What on earth is the game doing that handling a few hundred truces is prohibitive? Honestly a naked scan through a list of every truce in the game should take less than a thousandth of a second.

I want to add that in my current game, the truce ended on the 1st of the month and when that day arrived, I also immediately lost my claim on the province. In terms of timing, there is absolutely no way to declare war without breaking truce AND still retain the claim. This cannot be WAD, right?

In the previous 1.7 version, the claim used to last one whole month after the truce ends, so it still gave you a window to declare war and forestall the expiration of the claim. But now, there are cases in which it is impossible to forestall the claim expiration -- this is especially bad because you cannot forge a claim while a claim hasn't expired.

And if the claim expires and you immediately fabricate a new claim, that takes about a year, giving more than enough time for that country to then enter a coalition since the truce has long expired. The whole mechanics of these truce timers is totally messed up. It does not allow good planning or sound strategy by the player -- it is nothing more than pointless frustration.

This bug is very annoying because sometimes you just want to attack someone before he has a chance to join the coalition against you.

I HATED coalition functionality in previous patches, and even so I've yet to reload for that reason.

I have, however, already reloaded for claims. This change really needs to coincide with a change to how claims are handled during/after truces. It's terrible to sit on 15 claims during a long truce and then have them disappear instantly when you can declare again. This causes nations with event claims like Qing needless burden, but also is completely unnecessary in general. I'd rather claims disappear during the truce rather than blocking the player from making them again until after the truce.

With influence and enough diplomats you can easily have close to 20 claims on someone, and having all of them disappear like that is a major drain on diplomat resources and more importantly time. I'd like to see something done with claims such that a nation consistently pressing them doesn't lose them.

You can work around the coalition issue with the current mechanic, but you can do no such thing with claims aside save/reload.

Does reloading prevent the claims from expiring too soon?
