So, country A declared war on me, I defeated them and now we are at peace. However, country A is guaranteeing the independence of one of my neighbors(country B) that I want to invade. So my question is, if I declare war on country B, will country A automatically go to war with me even tho country A and me have a truce? Also, if we do go to war, would this be considered breaking the truce, so would country A get a stability hit?

Thanks,

So I'm pulling a necro here to try to find the answer to this - I've looked through the forums and cannot find a response.

My situation - attacked Crimea as Russia. 2 weeks into war, Crimea makes alliance with Ottomans, who then get called in (didn't think that could happen, but here we are). Ottomans become war leader due to "massive blob effect". I manage to hold off 120k Ottomans while I siege down Crimea, get them to peace out. Hold off Ottomans another 3 months, get them to peace.

Fast forward 5 years to the day before the date of the peace with Crimea. Ottoman guarantee independence of Crimea.

Next day - I now have no truce with Crimea, and 3 months left on truce with Ottomans.

If I attack Crimea, does Ottomans get called in (similar to defender), or do they have to actively join? Does this count as breaking truce, and will the AI do it? Can they wait 3 months and then get involved?

I would normally just test this out myself, but its an ironman game and I would rather not screw it up with a massive war with the Ottomans over 2 provinces if I don't have to...

Thanks

In 1.4, you'd be protected from the nation you have a truce with when attacking the one nation A is guaranteeing. I've not read all the changelog, but I think this is still the case in 1.5

Also, I generally run a quick test of stuff like this in non-ironman using the console if it's an ambiguous situation.

I know, at the very least, that defensive coalitions override truces. Mildly on-topic.

AFAIK all *defensive* CTA allow for you to ignore a truce, including both humans and AI. However an offensive CTA will cause a stability hit if honored against a truce.

I'm not 100% sure the AI knows the difference though.

Call to war of allies can happen up to 60 days into the war.
If you declare now you should be safe from ottomans. if you wait 2 months you won't be.
