Thanks Rommel for your detailed explanation on ports and air range.

The China campaign is really a hard one. I have conquered large pieces of land and with that provinces with lots of resources. Even so the latest count give China about 300 divisions. Some might also be hidden behind FoW. Considering how though Chinese Militia and light infantry are in defence in rough terrain it takes planning, time and sacrifices to progress. All in all, from what I have read about this theathre of war it works out rather realistic. As Japan you have to do the right things both tactically and strategically. And not least know when to stop the expansion and concentrate on just holding the lines. China is too big to conquer. Screenshots can be provided:)

Well. A lot of stuff can be done and conquered in a singleplayer round in TRP. Here is a screenshot of a successful Japanese MP player:

You can spread the japanese empire from Tokio to Delhi and Sydney.

Well well. I thought about it the minute I wrote it:). Anyway, I am stunned. Perhaps most of all by the date. A piece of Afghanistan and Australia even...
Is the amount of IC that is available in an MP game different than in a SP game? And did you build Carriers and factories at all? Takes some IC. Not to mention the amount of unrest and lack of TC one has to experience.? In my game the need for TC is almost double the capacity. And I have a garrison unit in every conquered province to quell the unrest. Are these things maybe not so important? If garrison only is important in provinces with IC and resources, one certainly can make a whole lot more fighting units. In the map you posted I can see only one unit in Borneo. Will you then not miss out on oil from other provinces on Borneo because of unrest? Some info on how this works will be very helpful.

See attached how things look her at the moment.

To be honest the screen is 3 or 4 years old. It is an old multiplayer screen with an extreme successful Japanese player. I had no pic with the last TRP version. It is more or less a screenshot to show you all the potential your nation has when you have done a good buildup or a good prepared war strategy. As far as i remember this was an extreme gameplay because this japanease player hadnt build any navy. He used all of his IC for the ground army and the air force. And in old versions the IC gifts for Japan were bigger with the result that Japan was too strong for a multiplayer game. So take this screen as inspiration ;)

:)I feel much better now.
Can you comment on my questions about the importans of keeping down dissent? Both for TC, IC production and resources? Garrisons costs troops and IC but seems to be neccessary. So far it's hard to see a direct relation between being short of TC and the effectiveness of fighting. These are among the things that is a little more complicated to figure out.

@Edox:
We'd have to find out what these units were doing in Africa. Maybe they were stuck there because ENG prepared an invasion in Europe but never managed to relocate enough transports. Could you please have a look whether there was a direct land connection between India and Africa (via Iraq and Persia) and (using fullcontrol) whether the units in Africa were on partisan duty?

Sorry for the late reply, i checked the save and the UK had military access in Persia and so should have been capable of directly transferring divisions stationed on the Lybian front.
They had around 80 divisions in front of Tripoli, facing a similar number of smaller and weaker italian ones, which they eventualy defeated - but at that point India was in my total control and they couldnt invade me from Persia, which wasn't in the allies but only gave them military access.
Also in the meantime the italians managed to launch a small suicidal invasion force in Syria which tied up a dozen of allied divisions, but never severed the link beetween allied forces in Africa and India passing trough Iraq and Persia.
So in fact allied forces where heavily engaged in the african theatre, but they were in the offensive , and it took me almost 5 months to reach the persian border, without a single allied division sent as a reinforcement - i only fought indian garrisons. They could have easily diverted at least some divisions from Lybia without consequences, there where even a dozen US divisions which stayed in Tobruk for two years doing nothing, apparently assembling for the eventual invasion of italy - which they did but two years later.
No unit was in anti partisan duty.

Hi again. After many hours with great fun and excitement playing Japan the time finally came for naval invasions. Then the problems started. Example:
The operation started from Saigon The targe was the Malayan peninsula. A fairly short distance. But I was not allowed to perform amphibious attack there? Actually the only place I could land was Bandari Seri Begewan on Borneo!? A much longer distance. And absolutely the wrong place when the ultimate target is Singapore.
The naval pattern of movement and the course a fleet takes is not always easy to grasp, but the example above is definitely something else. Btw their naval base is Saigon. Any clues?

@Edox: Thx for having a look. I'm afraid that all in all, wars on multiple fronts ask too much of the AI in HoI2. Perhaps the DH devs can fine-tune it a little bit more for 1.05.

@Wellington: You're running into range problems here. 1930 transports only operate at a maximum distance of 1600km for invasions, but it takes more than 1600km to reach provinces in Malaya starting from Saigon. Switching to 1936+ transports should solve the issue.
BTW: DH map data are a little bit strange here. ~750km distance for planes, but more than 1600km for ships? That's what i call strange...

@DerStudti: Thanks a lot:). You are right. I used one pre-war and one 1936 Transport and the pre-war one can,t reach the target. It's very easy to overlook that one are dealing with different versions of Tranports. An alternative is to rename the unit to be able to distinct the versions from each other just by looking at it.
About the much shorter distance for planes, it's certainly strange. Another example is in the attached file.

Honorable developers. First of all, I have made no adaptations in the code. Plays on Normal difficulty. Democracies can start war and everything else is default.

It's a bunch of great things about this mod. You have enhanced the AI (some achievement I would imagine), balanced it and simplified things, It has been a feast fighting China with very thin frontlines many places and a very smart AI opponent tsuddenly attacking in force.

I have played as Japan till June 1, 1942. I'm still not at war with USA because I opted not to attack the Dutch East Indies. US have guaranteed for here and thus I choose to avoid that. It's more than enough to deal with UK but as soon as I conquer Hong Kong, they will be out of the eastern Pacific. As you can see of the map attached things look dark for the USSR. Italy is on the defensive though. Japan has plenty of resources even though I did automate trade a part from manually make a couple of important oil-supply agreements with Persia. They became a puppet of the UK but with the consumption as of now Japan have vital resources for years.

The reason for posting this is because of balancing. Based on the situation I'm not sure that it for Japan should be possible to attack UK without involving USA. Don't know what it takes for them to declare war on the axis. Japan can just concentrate on beating UK, not worrying about the US at all. Considered the resource situation I can do well without occupying Dutch East Indies. Germany seems to beat USSR, which of course could have happen for real, but the question is the realism in this? I guess it must be a real headache to balance this game in such a way tthat it resembles history while at the same time being an interesting challenge. Anyhow, I wanted you to know.

I have had many hours of great gaming! Thank you.

We have a ww1 mod? Thats new to me. Do you have a link for "our" WW1 mod? xD Thx.

About your ingame situation:
I think USSR is not beaten. They have still a lot of IC with this position and they will be able to strike back in 42/43. Such a front line could end in a rapid german collapse.
For your resources: Well. Send our your fleet and air force and you will be shocked by the amount of oil that will be used by your troops ;) A stockpile for 1 or 2 years is okay.
About the US AI: Well. In such a situation they should join in the war.
By the way. I have seen your email. Sorry for the late response. I checked your build up and i think you can improve this buildup for a china campaign. E.g. CV can be started to be build in 1937/38 or even 39 (6 or 8 or even 10 at the same time). With Japan you have enough provinces to build IC. And you could improve your ministers. I think there is no need for a japanese chief of staff for armor or you can try to compensate an armor project with the -15% supply army leader ;) An other way could be the start of long infantry series in 1936 to get production series bonus. The japanese bonus here is small but helpful against China or build the mountain troops. You have so much mountainous terrain that they will always pay off.

Sorry, I mixed up mods:).
About Russia. Shouldn't the forces in Siberia have been transfered to the west by now? If I continue the game I can give an update on what happened.

Fuel is running fast, but it will run for a long time even with big fleets operating. 3 years I calculated.

About China, I am rather happy with the China campaign but I did fall behind schedule. Especially in Technology. I failed to prioritize Air and Naval doctrine which caused I was not as prepared against US and UK as I should have been in December 41. I also went for upgrading the BB and BC's. Don't know the IC cost but I'm not sure that it was a good idea. Not finished yet either.

I might suggest that the fall of Singapore triggers the US to war, if that can be acheived. As of now, as Japan I actually don't need to conquer more and the incentive for war is gone. If we look at it as in real life, that is.

Not playing at the moment but I recall that Japan in June-42 I have about 18 carriers of different types and sufficient infantry (200+divs). One or two extra Marines divisions by December 41 would have been convenient if I had done things according to history. And also 1938 Transports to be able to reach beaches in Indonesia.

Thanks for the tip on ministers.I have considered changing. One gain 1 dissent by changing ministers. Can one avoid this by changing ministers when one can change policy?

Thanks for your feedback . By the way, does overstretched TC influence on land units battle capability?

PS. Japan attacked Thailand Dec 8. Before that Thailand invaded Indochina. An interesting story that might be depicted in the game perhaps. See Wikipedia for more.

@bflm1: I suppose that you chose the historical occupation policy:

Code:
    #############################################################################################################################################
     # human GER vs. SOV AI: Moscow, Leningrad, Rostov & Sevastopol needed + Stalingrad needed + Kujbysev, Tolyatti needed + Baku AND Murmansk needed
     #############################################################################################################################################

I did conquer those provinces but had chosen vlassov regime event and second option policy (cant remember its name) where u can free baltic states, byelorussia and ukraine as puppets during barbarossa (which i did excluding socialist russia under romanov control) but bitter peace event didn't launch. Will it ever start in this case?

The conditions mentioned in my quote just apply for the historical occupation policy. If you chose one of the two other paths, you'll have to go for Vladivostok and soviet annexation. (BTW: New Order East event chains have been reworked for the next version, which we're still working on. Current status: Images, texts and bugfixing for new New Order West chain + calculations for some tweaks to our morale system.)

Hi again. I could not stop playing this super mod. Just to reduce micromanagement a little bit. Is it possible to give Light divisons another symbol than regular infantry divisons also when shown as in the attachment? It would certainly help.
At the same time, is it possible to also mark the icons with the type of batalion attached for all types and not only for Engineers?
