Well, I think I'm going to have to get a usb adapter for my mic since the all-in-one(more like none-in-one) jack doesn't work with my trusty ole headset. I was going to start at least my intro video today, but I want to have decent quality voice without you all hearing my computer's fans as to not ruin myself on first impressions. So I placed the order and I should be able to start Wednesday. I also believe I'll be going with the Mande, I really want to see how hard the nomads will be by the time I get to them. (^w^)

It's a West African culture. Before 769 was a thing, they used be kinda slow to play as since you had to fight your way out of Mali a county at a time with truce timers, but with Mauretania being all broken up in 769, it's more a race to get as much as Mauretania as you can before the Umayyads start to take it. So that's the only reason why it slightly matters whether I start as a county-level chief or Ghana. Then after of course the Umayyads become your initial rival, but fighting them in Mauretania is pretty easy using the Strait of Gibraltar.

I actually though about Mali but I didn't think about the culture. I was looking for a ruler with the name or dynasty called mande :p

WC with tribal is hard or impossible but with West Africa it's already hard to get a descent Empire.
I wish you luck.

Thanks!

Got the mic working and made my channel premiere video! Hope you enjoy and find the quality acceptable. I'm kinda impressed how far the 5 dollar headset is taking me, but I do have a problem with my hissing S'es so I'll try to tone that down a bit but I'm mostly happy about the audio. Maybe I'll start the actual tribal challenge today, but probably tomorrow, forgive the delay.

Here you all go and hope to see you on youtube!

You don't need to risk a game over though, once you have a male somewhere in your dynasty you are good to go.

With concubines the problem becomes you can only have one child, which can be problematic. With seduction, you can keep producing children forever, and if one gets genius or strong, you then legitimize him. I think you can even legitimize the girls and matri marry them, so that they will have boys that can inherit if something goes wrong.

If your legitimized heir dies, you can just quickly legitimize another.

By the Nine Divines, it's like solving E=MC^2. Brilliant.

One thing I would add to your comment is I would also advise getting married, but only to a woman who is over the age of 45 to ensure she can't produce children. Getting married will provide half of her attributes onto you, so it's worth it. Of course, she will get pissed when she discovers your infidelity after legitimizing a child that is not hers, but whatever, have her assassinated later. For this reason, I'd advise against marrying a 4-star Intrigue. Because tribals generally are war-like, I would marry a 4-star Martial.

Yeah, I'll probably marry like that later, currently all candidates are young however, I also like to start breeding wide for at least my first ruler. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Parts 1 and 2 are done, I've just uploaded part 1 which is now in the OP. I'm going to record some more today before I upload the rest. Hope you enjoy!

How do you plan to get a steady flow of prestige? Your possibilities of conquest qnd tributary war are very limited.

Do you plan on investing in ships? Do you can raid overseas as an West African?

I still recommend a Norse ruler for this WC. You just have so many more possibilities to conquer, raid and make tributaries. In the East there are many easy tribal targets and beyond there are the hordes which provide good land. (Instant religion and culture shift). In the West you easy conquer Ireland than Scotland and later the rest of the British island.
With West African you face very early the Umayyads (how do you plan to deal with them?) and just can expand into North Africa.

I am almost certain to go for ships since yes, you can raid overseas as any pagan or Hindu. Also because I think I'll have to reform West African Paganism probably without the other two holy sites in Tunis and Atlas Mnts, I was gunning for the latter, but I noticed at the end of part 3 a vassal of the African Sultanate is about to take it. I also have around 1600 prestige now so I'm at least getting ready for what's to come. But I'm considering having part 4 be more peaceful, if I don't decide to take Atlas Mnts no matter the cost, which I may go for anyway given the extremely slow conversion and how much safer I'd be with a holy order.

But yes, Norse would be the optimal option, but that's more or less why I choose Mande, I wanted something harder.

Part 3 is up now, forgive the lack of live commentary, my mic was disabled.

To get out of the Gavelkind problem on my current Hæsteinn game i'm killing my wife after 1-2 male sons. Once my ruler is dead i then kill my new character's brother. It's dirty but effective. But i'm having a hard time reforming the norse faith as Hæsteinn, can't take Zeeland and Paderborn and scandinavia is imploding under french pressure.

Sorry, this Let's Play didn't get the publicity I was expecting, there's just not enough of an audience in it for me to continue. Unless some more successful or mainstream youtuber takes up the mantle of the challenge, I guess we'll never know if it's possible.

But thank you all for the interest and discussion.

April Fools!

This run is too interesting to stop, while I can't really play on a schedule, I'll have some days when I can do several episodes and some when I can't do any. But anyhow part 5 is up now,

So I 'made' part 6 and 7. Except apparently the video for both parts froze a few seconds in as I launched up... so it's literally only my voice over a still image. First audio trouble, now video trouble, do all Let's Players start off this bad? This really sucks, I made a lot of progress and had an unexpected triumph in part 7. Yet I don't want you guys to lose 2 episodes of the amazing action and I could probably replicate the results, if not do better, so I'll probably redo these parts rather than give you an audiobook victory. Forgive the further delay...
