Good evening, I'm writing this to ask what I'm missing to go from Tribal to Clan. I've created a custom (within Ironman Achievements) Turkic character in Finland. He's a Finnish Pagan religion, I want to try to reform a pagan religion. It says adopt Feudal Ways. I know that Clan is tied to the Turkic, Iranian, and Arabic culture groups. I've experimented in the 9th century start date making custom rulers and noted for say Saka it starts as Feudal but if you replace it with a custom ruler of the same heritage it goes to Clan. There is also another Buddhist Iranian premade character that is Clan. I can make a Turkic, Arabic, Iranian, culture character in Sardinia with Orthodoxy and it is Clan. So it doesn't seem to be religion tied. or location tied But when starting as Tribal I seem to only get the adopt Feudal Ways. What am I missing? I just wanted to try a Clan government away from the Middle East/Iran since I've played a bunch in that area. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Going clan from tribal is limited to Islamic faiths. This is separate from some cultures defaulting to clan governments, and that doesn't come into play when leaving tribal government.

Hmm interesting. So convert to Islam right before decision, have pagan heir, become Clan, and then become Pagan with the heir and carry on from there? Never done something like that. Thanks for the suggestion.
If you converted right before then son would probably convert unless you made him an independent realm. Educate heir is probably best

Depending on your playstyle you could custom character a muslim ruler in the appropriate tribal/pagan area and 'feudalize' your counties(tbh I've never gone tribal to clan so idk if the flavor text on the button changes) - then just wait for the peasant faction revolt and choose the 'what if I adopt your ways instead' option and presto - instant paganization.

Depends if you dont mind a little bit of trickery/gameness. As others have suggested you could change to Muslim and then go clan & educate your son. I'd suggest Reforming your Pagan faith before you change to muslim, it might be possible with the right perks in learning to just Swap back right after if you reformed it. there will be discounts all around, the faith will be in ur realm, no longer have pagan penalty.

Or you could capture counties so that you are within range of Iberia/any muslim king/empire & swear fealty and then do the decision.

If you start in 1066 there is actually a Clan Kingdom led by the Dulo dynasty pretty close (in the volga-bulgaria /Volga-ural empire). Just remember to reform before you swear fealty. and get religious exempt.
