I'm glad that we are going to get co-consuls and hopefully other types of diarchies. Now I want triarchies to simulate Roman triumvirates as well.

Don't tell me that triumvirates aren't "fun". I am sure that Johan Andersson will find a way to make them fun.

And to this I would like to add that at least the Seleukids would at times adopt a system with two simultanous kings, the elder in the west and the younger in the east, so I totally expect that this will be included as well in the future.

the first triumvirate happened in the last few years of the games time frame so no i don't think we need them

Ahah, I knew the first comment was going to be something along these lines. First of all, triumvirates happened in a pivotal period within the game timeframe. Secondly, they could have happend earlier in alt-history scenarios. Thirdly, the game timeframe can be and probably will be extended. Fourthly, I don't care whether we "need" triumvirates or not. Like I said, I *want* them. It'd be great fun for role-players.

Triumvirates would be poorly represented by the consul mechanics because by that point in the game the three members have more or less carved out territorial spheres of influence and the Roman "state" represented by republic institutions is disintegrating into political and military warfare between specific leaders. Consuls and co-consuls don't have anything near that level of power, and that's by design; they were meant to be strictly subordinate to Rome as a state. By that point it is no longer just about popularity, loyalty and influence but having control over specific territories, so that Caesar conquered Gaul independently after receiving his commandership. It's hard to really reflect that level of state disintegration in-game, where in the republican scenario you are as I understand a spirit of the state, not just an individual character. This is different for monarchies.

1.A) the game ends ends in 27 B.C. and the first triumvirate was in 60 B.C.(that's about 30 years not exactly pivotal).
B) yes there we triumvirates before this but it was a government position and from what i can read, and it looks like they were assistants to the high judge not a major political force in Rome
C)so the first important triumvirate was just an alliance with some of the most powerful people in Rome so i don't know how this will be shown? would it be the heads of the families uniting for a civil war or so you could have increased loyalty for some characters????

2. obviously if its alt history any thing could happen but that doesn't mean we need a random mt. Vesuvius erupts in Rome event.

3. maybe but even so it will probably be in a while and this feature may come out with the imperial expansion or what ever they call it.

4.you don't role play a character in I:R you play as the state (which is why they don't have the cursus horum and can imprison your leader) so i'm not sure about you but having some random people form an alliance that you can't control doesn't sound to fun.

I'm in favour of adding some kind of triumvirate mechanics. Make it less about having three rulers for one state, and more like each ruler controlling their own territory almost like a dictator. However, if a vir dies, their territory gets absorbed by the parent state and potentially gets divided amonst the rest of the viri. If one declares war on another, it gets treated more like a civil war.

Think along the lines of the original Rome: Total War, but only being split up later in the game rather than starting as separate factions.

I feel like triumvirates would pretty much just be separate nations like client states. The ability to create something like client states would be good, you could then simulate the triumverates and various other things blah blah. : P

Thank yoy for your detailed reply, but I don't buy your counter-points. I still want triumvirates. I haven't thought about the best way to implement them, but I don't see why it "doesn't sound fun". I trust that the clever game designers at Paradox Interactive would find a creative way to marry fun and historical plausibility.

They were, and often had two kings at the same time, hence I want them to be able to have two kings as they historically did. One senior and one junior.

That is not a stupid Idea, why people downvote?
Also it would need to have a sort of regional administration splitting in order to have control over a certain part of the Republic.

The form of Government goes from Republic to Triumvirate to Dictature.

This would be great both for historical immersion and for game play. What's left to do with your late game blob in peace time? Answer: internal politics such as peaceful but unstable triumvirates that could lead to civil war.
