I have a question. I'm playing Portugal and sent an army into Uruguay to take over a Spanish trading post under Tot but it wouldnt let me. Does it not work because I am allied or have a royal marriage with Spain.

Thanks.

Possibly because Spain are the only country that cannot be touched with the Treaty.

But most likely because Uruguay ain't inside your influence and is in fact in Spain's influence (boundary) from the treaty.

I believe it's because you're allied. Spain and Portugal can steal provs from each other by ToT as far as I know.

Right, well I just loaded up EU2 to check. Uruguay is Portuguese according to the ToT. So that cannot be it.

If Spanish or Portugese troops are allowed access to the province without the effects of the Treaty, their presence will not effectuate the change of ownership. Thus, either an alliance during time of war, or the existence of military access will keep the movement of your troops into Uruguay from resulting in a change of ownership.

I have not bothered in quite some time to worry about this part of the game, so I cannot say if the existence of an alliance absent a time of war will prevent your troops from effectuating a change of ownership. I'll have to test that.

That explains what I'd wondered about.

One question, other than reloading as the other country, is there any way to see what the other guy's cores or TOT provinces are? I ask about TOT because I've had (in AGCEEP) the Spanish take a province which was clearly marked as mine (POR). I wonder if some provinces can be assigned to both? And I think loading another country to look at it, is cheating.

Are you sure that happened? They only belong to one or the other in the province.csv file which designates them the option is only for one or the other. By using the colonisation screen they should all the viewable.

It definitely happened. (It was in 1.371, I think, not the new version). It was a TP in the NW-most POR province (Artigas, I think). They kept taking it from me, & I couldn't take it back (I had MA from them, they didn't from me). It kept getting torched for them, I'd build, & they'd take, until I just put troops there.

Then it was the next one over. It had a POR shield.

You can see the Treaty of Tordesillas reservations by looking in the screen for sending colonists. You don't have to load either country; all countries see that.

As for cores, no, there is no way to know what the cores for other countries are without either loading up the game as that country or opening the save file for your game with a text editor and going to that country's description of provinces owned, controlled and core.

As for Spain, if they were taking a province from you, it was a Spanish province by the Treaty, or you were at war with them. Otherwise, they can't do that. ;) The only province that caused problems was that there was some difficulty with one of the sets of Islands in the Atlantic at one point.

Actually for the TOT I think there is 1 or 2 provinces that they both have claims on.
