What kind of a moron can't lead his troops through a province already under siege? General M.C.Caecus of the roman 1st legion, that's who.

I commanded his army to march through Bruttius to Syracusae while the 2nd legion lay siege to the city.

Apparently he couldn't get around, because he stopped to help with the siege against my specific orders to attack Sicily.

I then tried to separate the two, to continue the march of the 1st, but could only do so by lifting the siege; a siege nearing it's inevitable and glorious end -- The Sack. Ah the sweet smell of fear mingled with burning wood, and flavored by the cries of....But I digress.

What gives? Is this normal? And, if so, why?

And the master demanded, "Conan, what is best in life?"
And the student replied. "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women."

In EU3 I'm always allowed to move through no problem. I know while trying to cross a channel an enemy fleet in the area can prevent crossing. I don't think that happenned here, but if I could separate the armies (like in EU3) it wouldn't matter because I could just re-issue the command to the 1st to march to Sicily. For some reason, though, I can't separate them without breaking the siege.

If the straits was blocked by a hostile fleet, the army would automatically stop.

When moving over straits, make sure your fleet is there in position to engage any hostile boats trying to block the crossing of the straits.

Thnks for the info about the sprite click. I figured that out after I kept trying on my own because It takes forever to get a response on a forum.
What if I want to select more than one army at once? Can I get some TECH support? Not gamers. Is there a 1-800 number I could call? these forums are useless. It takes a week to get one question answered-after all the back and forth- assuming you even get it answered. Responding quickly with useless information is the same as not responding.

See, this is the problem with forums, I don't have time(no one does life is to short) to sit around all day trying to get info about how to fix games I payed money for. Perhaps they could ALREADY WORK WHEN RELEASED! Is that really to much to ask?

I sense much anger...

Yeah anyhow, to get access to the tech support forums you need to register your game. You have registered EU3, you have not registered EU: Rome. Hence no tech support forum for you.

The scenario based on the incomplete and minimal information you have provided is more than likely:

You have drag and box selected the armies in the province, probably due to RTS familiarity. Unsurprisingly this selects all armies in the province or provinces under the drag select box. You can recognise when this happens as you will see more than one stack summary headers ( name of the stack, numbers of men, some buttons on the left) appear on the left side of your screen.

You need to click on the X button for the stack (or stacks) you dont want to move (the one that is sieging), which will deselect it. Then order the remaining stack (the one that is not sieging) to move.

If you want better, free, volunteer support youre going to need to provide a little more detail than "I cant order my army to move where I want rage rage rage!!!!". Screenshot of the armies when you have selected them before you try to order them to move might help.

Here's a question, did EU:Rome come out after EU:3?

Yes

See, this is the problem with forums, I don't have time(no one does life is to short) to sit around all day trying to get info about how to fix games I payed money for. Perhaps they could ALREADY WORK WHEN RELEASED! Is that really to much to ask?

Im going to go absolutely wild here and assume user error as opposed to some issue with the game. Or that you didnt have time to RTFM that you paid for and learn how to select and deselect multiple armies in the same province. Or to register your game for tech support.

Is there anybody out there?

Yes

Your description of the left side stacks are accurate for EU:3, not for rome. During a siege only one army is shown at a time. This is exactly the point I was trying to make- the interface for EU:3 was preferable.
I understand the difference between box selecting and sprite-click selecting. And clicking the X to deselect one army and not the others only works when the armies are actually listed. But only one shows up during the siege no matter how many armies are there.
So, again, how do I select more than one army at once? I'll amend-while laying siege?
And, of course, I read the manual, angerboy, but thanks for teaching me the that cute little abbreviation thing you did there.

Not every second of every day, no, but if you wait a reasonable amount of time (more than your ten minutes for example) then some one will generally answer you before too long.

Why do you need to? Just left click on the sieging army sprite and it cycles through your armies in the province. If you can only, for some reason, see 1 army when you are doing this, then you've merged them and that's your own fault, no matter how bitter you are towards the people giving you (free) help.

Oh yeah, more than likely its user error.

Your description of the left side stacks are accurate for EU:3, not for rome.
During a siege only one army is shown at a time
But only one shows up during the siege no matter how many armies are there.

Can you help me identify the game in the thumbnails below?

You see, it has this army sieging a province and a seperate stack in the same province displayed at the same time on the left. Also, somehow, the second stack is able to move away but the first stack continues the siege. I had assumed it was EU Rome but this cant be the case clearly.

What kind of a moron can't lead his troops through a province already under siege?

...

Less attitude helps immensely, especially when you consider you are not bothered registering your game to access the proper tech support forums, provide next to no details on your issue, insult people who take time from their own day to attempt to assist based on your poor info and impatiently post again and again inside a 20-30 minute time span complaining that no one is solving your problem right away.

I was certain I had some sort of bug when playing EU 3 and my stacks would not reinforce despite thousands of manpower and my stacks sitting in home provinces in peacetime. I came this close to posting a bug report about this huge issue I had discovered that had somehow slipped past everyone else. Then I went hmm...maybe, maybe just maybe I am wrong. Perhaps having my military spending slider set to zero has some magical effect on my reinforcement rate...one quick milatary slider adjustment later, reinforcements arriving. No bug, user error.

Now, if having read the manual, followed the steps advised above and *still* cant move your troops and are certain this is an actual bug, register your game, go to the tech support forums and report it with actual details that will allow someone to understand 100% what is wrong. Screenshots, copies of your savegame, steps to reproduce and so on. Your OP might help you vent annoyance, but it doesnt help anyone help you.

thanx for the screenshots, melichai. My screen doesn't look like that though. I don't know how to send screenshots so I can't show you what I mean, but the info on the left is displayed much larger and only one army is listed at a time above the siege info. I can cycle through armies with the sprite-click, but can't select more than one at a time. I figured out how to circumvent the problem by selecting one army, ordering it to move, selecting another army, ordering IT to move and box-clicking the moving icon to give collective orders. How did you get your screen to look like that? Are my graphics settings wrong or something? I am perfectly willing to accept that the most likely root cause of my problem is user error or user ignorance; that's why I'm asking for help. I just think that a forum is not a very efficient way of garnering helpful information. I don't think the mathematics can be argued; A week of back-and-forth on a forum is greater than a 5 minute conversation. My contention: real-time tech-support would be preferable. I know that I haven't registered my game, but, even if I had, the "tech support" offered is just another forum. At best you can contact them by email and deal with the same people as on the forum, over a several day, multi-email correspondence. It's just SO MUCH WASTED TIME. Again, thank you for responding. Now can someone tell me WHY I'm wrong not THAT I'm wrong. How do I make it work?
