I've noticed that certain people teleport around the world instantly.

Most notable, generals and missionaries. Missionaries wouldn't be that hard to add a travel time to, it would just use the same mechanics that determine how long it takes a diplomat/colonist/merchant to move, and are also the smaller issue here.

It feels so broken in late game to be able to teleport my 3 star general all over the world to fight battles as needed. Today he's in Siberia, tomorrow he's in the Mediterranean, then off to South America. Even in today's age of chartered flights that would be a tough time table to push.

My Empire which spans from Ocean to Ocean across continents and fields hundreds of thousands of troops can afford to appoint 4 Generals among the entire army, the rest is led by some random dude determined each morning during breakfast.
Give me enough Generals so that atleast every 50k stack can have one and we can talk about travel time.

The traveltime for merchants matters for sh*t, and the traveltime for Diplomats vs Colonists is strange at best.
My Diplomat can travel from most places of the world in 80 days, while my Colonist needs almost two years to reach the same general area.
Also, have fun adding 300 days to each conversion job.
For most religions that will double the time per province for zero relevant adidition to gameplay.



If you want to make suggestions regarding travel time then start by suggesting that the "Emissatry travel time" modifier should affect Colonists aswell.
THAT would be really awesome.

Honestly I'm of the opinion that all travel times should be removed. While it's certainly more 'realistic' to have travel times, there's literally no other information or thing in the game that isn't instantaneous and I feel like it's an unnecessary calculation for the game - no matter how small it is - because it doesn't add anything meaningful other than busywork and waiting.

To make it consistent you either have to add travel times to missionaries/generals whatever, or just remove it.

My Diplomat can travel from most places of the world in 80 days, while my Colonist needs almost two years to reach the same general area.
A single man on horseback at a full speed can go about 30-45 miles a day. (Would traverse the Oregon trail in about 2 months)
A pioneer moving west along the Oregon trail went about 10 miles a day, traversing the trail in about 5.5 months

Sure he can, but not all the way on the same horse.
He needs Outposts along the way so he can eat, sleep and change gears otherwise hes traveling with alot more luggage.

Those same outposts would be able to accelerate a group of travelers aswell.

It´s not only that... Diplomats can get around the world in an instanse to DoW or sign peace... Yet... When they need to get back... All of a sudden he takes 2 months to get back... Yet, he can´t improve relations in same nation and DoW/sign peace while he is already there :p

You could argue that he is sent from some of the nearby "true religion" provinces

I think the travel time system works well, apart from the fact that generals lake travel time. If they had one, the ideas giving more free general upkeep would make more sense than now.

To make it consistent you either have to add travel times to missionaries/generals whatever, or just remove it.

To be fair, travel times do have an impact on gameplay in very specific situations - for example if you are playing a colonial power that is trying to get elected emperor at the same time. Let's say you want to attack several natives in the new world. Travel time from the new world back to Europe is something like 90 days. Every target you want to attack results in 270 days of travel time (90 for recalling the diplomat after claim fabrication, 90 after declaring war, 90 after negotiating peace). It is entirely possible that your diplomats spend years travelling between the continents which in turn makes any bonus that increases the number of diplomats more valuable.

But yeah, I agree that travel times usually don't matter.
