Hello there forum, some time lurker, lover of exploring EU3 (finally)

I had a question I couldn't see an answer to and wondered if you could help.

So, as Pommeria I've managed to expand a little, and vassalise about 1/2+ of the HRE and finaly got elected Emperor. All good.Let the push to form the HRE begin...and the manpower to finally take on those around me directly.

Without my knowing (probably missed the pop up) I get the two provinces to the right of Aquiela (who I've just liberated for HRE in a war with Venice) at some point in the immediate post war. Infamy hit for Unlawful T, bam.

Hm. Can't vasselise them, so look for people to sell them to for nothing to get them off my hands...all good. Hungry accepts one, Austria the other (no one else would take them...).

PROBLEM. Every time I sell the province to Hungry, within 6 months it releases it back to me...presumably due to it being an unlawful territory for them (and me...no one has any cores on it...). This keeps happening and no one will take it apart from them.

Do I just accept this and just build an Embassy there to mitigate/zero the infamy, or is there a way to break this cycle? I considered leaving the HRE, but I would still be Emperor...does that change things, or if you are elected Emperor as a non HRE state, do you still have to play but it's rules?

Many thanks for any thoughts here =) First play through trying to be the HRE rather than weakening it at every step (2nd game it stretched from half of France, Italy, Germany, Poland, and far, far into Russia so HRE states would be fighting Ming...never again). If any good HRE advice threads I've missed would be cool to read them.

All the best.

That's very odd. Usually if you reclaim provinces for the Empire you get a core on them.

Anyway, what you can do is change tags to Hungary and enact the provincial decision to remove that province from the HRE. Then switch back to Pommerania. In order for that decision to be taken, you need to have bad relations with Hungary.

UPDATE: =/

Hey Yersinia, thanks for the reply and work around =)

I've inherited another couple provinces since, but not getting cores on them so whenever it happens I get the instant Unlawful Territory.

When you say 'reclaim for the Empire' what exactly do you mean?
From what I can tell...and I only notice after (no pop up..maybe I disabled it?) there is suddenly a random province I now own, it keeps happening. o_O

Is there a decent HRE guide anywhere you know of?#
Many thanks,

Reclaiming provinces for the HRE means you take them from non-HRE members, so any HRE state that captures HRE provinces from e.g France will get free cores right after the peace treaty is signed. Do note that the cores are given AFTER the provinces are taken so buildings are sadly still destroyed. As for expansion within the HRE, it's best done through personal unions (HRE inheritances also grant cores regardless of what culture group(s) the union members belong to) or vassalization. Taking non-cored provinces is almost never worth it because of the high infamy penalty (and inevitable stability and prestige hit followed by hefty tax and revolt risk malus after denying the emperor).

Yeah, you aren't given cores on them if you get them from event. The intent is that you should give them back to the country that "deserves" them (Aquilea in this case).

Hmm, are you patched to 5.2? I think at some point they added an option in the event to return the province to its rightful owner.
