Very good stuff, very good updates. I was glad to read that Rudoplh Townsend got his comeuppance, the insidious blaggard was no match for Range's cunning! The trial as a whole played out very well and proven an engrossing read. Now though expansion in every direction and ever new enemies on the lengthening borders. Thankfully Range has enough experience from his numerous conquests, so that I rather think Translyvania will continue to prosper!

Yes, the enemies of Range will soon number the French I fear.
Oh well, at least you've got interior lines

It's coming, but yet...their forces are everywhere except in France. They've been fighting a lot of wars. At the last glance they were a -1 in Stability.

Thank you. I was hoping you'd like the trial.

I might be able to take the France on now...we're at equal strength...but, Transylvania has the better horse soldiers by far. And, I've been alternating my wars to keep my enemies from ganging up on me. But, that won't last forever.

The plan was to get a market in Indonesia. Makassar was the target…a simple little target that in the end (without colonies) would prove utterly worthless. But, Range had in fact set his mark on the obtaining the entire island…one piece at a time.

15fj2c3.jpg

The country’s advisers tried to talk Range out of the move, but as most have come to realize Range can be an unmovable object. Once he sets his gaze on an objective…well, there’s no way for him to let go regardless of the cost.

2upfhuq.jpg

No sooner had the kingdom had been taken, A market was set up. It would eventually fail due to future endeavors.

But, there was a bigger issue. Range had heard of the horrible acts against Catholics in Armenia. He rushed to their aid.

ic7nua.jpg

After this battle the Persian were decimated.

5memah.jpg

Having wiping out the Persian forces that Range attacked, the Persians were glad to cede the provinces that Range choose…even though the war score didn’t exactly dictate such payment.

At this time, France was still an ally. But, because of all the Transylvania wars their people had suffered greatly, and the nation’s stability dropped to zero. The reasons to go to war against Transylvania were growing, but yet France remained a trusted ally to Transylvania.

x5v7ug.jpg

Duke Philippe II of Orleans, regent of France.

The Duke delayed for good reason. With France’s stability being so low he didn’t dare declare war on Transylvania. Then, there was the issue of the size Range’s army. Both armies were of equal size…each over 400,000. But, the real problem was that most of France’s army were elsewhere…

6ymdug.jpg

While the Duke waited for the best time to shed himself of a troublesome ally, Transylvania was preparing for battle.

After staring at his map, Range could only choose one possible victim…Austria. And, it might prove to be a bloody war if the Russians that were gathering at the Transylvania eastern border were to enter the war on the side of the Austrians.

Entry 52

As of March of 1723 France’s regent Duke Philippe II, had no intention of a starting a war with Transylvania. But, Range had all intention of going to war with Austria. Range and his armies were trusted without a single doubt to be a loyal ally.

France was proud of their honorable reputation, which the opposite could be said about Transylvania which was hated by the entire world. And, that was before they descended on Austria.

The Austrian troops held their ground in Pressburg, if only to save their capital by being destroyed.

With the ceding all the remaining Austrian provinces, only Wien, the capital remained in Austrian hands.

Russia was left to carry on the war alone.

RANGE: Well, no one is perfect.

2dkedqt.jpg

KING LEOPOLD I of Austria wrote his daughter Maria Anna of Austria in Lisbon, Portugal. As you recall she was betrothed to Range, before the people of Austrian raised their voices condemning the possible marriage. There is some belief that Pope Pope Clement XI also spoke up against the arranged marriage.

24e6ovq.jpg

Pope Clement XI

Range had some harsh words for the Pope in the past and I guess the Pope got his revenge. It all came down to the simple answer to the question of who takes precedence, the Holy Catholic Church, or a king. Range of course answered, “the king”.

Range never sought vengeance against Rome. On 19 March 1721 Pope Clement XI died.

Instead, it would appear that Range had taken his anger out on Austria. Of course the story might have been different if he had in fact married Maria Anna of Austria. Instead she married her maternal first cousin John V of Portugal.

She was six years older than the king. He was nineteen at the time of their marriage.

2ch53k4.jpg

King Leopold I had lived to regret his decision of not honoring the pledge of marriage of his daughter to Range. Shortly after the last war with Transylvania, he impatiently awaited a response from his beloved daughter. In his letter to her, he pleaded, imploring her to reach out to Range in hopes of bringing an end to the hostilities between Austria and Transylvania. This was a hard task for the king of Austria. But, there was little else he could do. He knew that the next war with Transylvania, Austria would cease to exist.

Maria Anna

2hoa7hy.jpg

After reading Maria Anna’s reply, King Leopold refolded the letter and placed it in a secret drawer. It was found in the early twentieth century. Today, Scholars are at a loss to discover who this Range was that was mentioned in the letter.

I assume Maria's answer was none too favourable for her father to simply hide the letter away. Austria thus seems doomed. Oh well, with her downfall, yet more land is gained by the Transylvanian juggernaught!

Entry 53

Wars quickly became a way of life for the Transylvanians. The biggest point of their conquests were wars that didn’t affect the county's stability (the loss of one point being the worst). If you want to fight a country of your religion, you attack an ally that’s of some other religion.

But, this time around Range was looking to the East Indies. He wanted to start an East Indian trading company. And, to do that Range chose a likely cult…Aceh…and, their province of Lampung.

RANGE: By the time the French wake up, Lumpung will be ours.

Range had gotten what he was after.

10o2rsi.jpg

33uao46.jpg

In Range’s way of thinking, trading is important if you’re going to have a great army. Say…1,500 regiments. That’s the quest. But, what’s the sense of having a large army if aren’t as good as the French? Range began to look to the North more and more.

(Sorry, this was a short post…all too many wars were fought this weekend.)

1500 regiments?
Wow, Range always seems to build huge armies.
Well god is on the side of the big battalions:p

The more the better...without taking on inflation...markets help...tax accessors...of course research suffers...but, in the end what I can't make myself I make up in what I take.

JAPAN

2d8651.jpg

8wfqqv.jpg

Tokuggawa Yoshimune was a wise Shogun, a shogun that would listen to the wind. In such a moment Yoshimune was forewarned of a coming storm one that would bring a great struggle to his island nation.

He wrote of his premonition (English translation) shown below:

“I fear the winds have changed their direction. No longer are they favorable for our islands. Ever since we first met the European devils, we watched as they inched ever closer bringing their death and destruction. Still, we should not fear the French, the English, the Spanish, or the Scandinavians…for there is one that they even they fear. These winds shall carry a jackal named Range.

Many may ask what shall we do? My answer is to wait and prepare for his coming as the winds have foretold.”

As for Range, in 1729, he wasn’t even thinking of Japan. But, he was taken by the newly acquired province of Lumpang and everywhere he looked.

oje4jn.jpg

He wanted to take as much of this region as possible. But, they would have to wait. For now, he wanted Italy (mainly ruled by the French). He also knew if he was to take on the French he needed better trained soldiers (Line Infantry). So, he trained his gaze on Scandinavia. At this place in time Scandinavia had just as good a soldier as the French. Range knew he had to make his move fast.

51y1hx.jpg

You didn’t think Transylvania was going to declare war straight out on Scandinavia if there was another way?

r9ivcn.jpg

Range brought his biggest ships to the fight.

25jh6o2.jpg

And, he wasn’t messing around with small armies.

27zc7za.jpg

The navy is holding up.

14c4p4i.jpg

As Range’s armies advanced, Transylvania’s vassals were swarming over their foe.
