Alrighty friends. Heres the issue. This is my first city, and I forgot to think ahead for transportation issues. The main junction used to be a small roundabout I installed right away at the beginning. I have traffic coming straight from the highway and the other 3 sides are all connected to their respective sectors of the city. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would demolish the entire area around that point (probably 20 to 30 squares in each direction). Then build a roundabout at ground level and one or more overpasses depending on traffic flow after the roundabout. Then start building around it again.

Roundabouts need to be big enough and can benefit greatly from overpasses for the busiest connections.
I've built this roundabout in one of my city and it has three overpasses and two bypasses to keep the traffic flowing

For intersections that I know are going to be busy I build roundabouts with enough space to build bypasses on all sides and at least four overpasses.

Something of that sort could definitely help. The thing is that it takes a lot of space. The roundabout itself takes 22 by 22 squares and then there are the bypasses and overpasses that take extra space.

Personally I think your problem will only become worse in the future, since basicly all traffic from and to the highway has to go straight through the build up part of your city.

I would go on an even grander overhaul, and just pull the highway straight bootom to top, and make proper on and off ramps to it at several spots, and use overpasses to connect the left and right part of the city across the highway. Be carefull though, buldozing large parts can make you go in debt quickly in the beginning, so I would revise it bit by bit. Or make more connections to that other highway so traffic has alternative routes from going through the middle.

Okay, this portion made no sense.

You might also want to look at all the 6 lanes you have as well. They can be more of a pain than a help. The Cims will activly pursue the faster route based on speed/size of the road, so you can actually create "commuter" routes by funneling them to where you want.
