Can someone explain the relationship between a unit's "transportweight" variable and a transport ship's "transportcapability" variable? After some brief testing, it does not seem to follow a logical methodology. I've made a transport ship with 1 transportcapability, and an infantry with 100 transportweight, and the transport ship can still carry the infantry unit.

I too have noticed, in the process of testing paratroops, that the transportweight variable does not appear to have any impact whatever.

I set a paratrooper's weight to 1000, transport plane with a transportcapacity of 1, and it could still load and drop just fine.

Setting the transport planes' capacity to less than 1 simply made it unable to load anything (including paratrooper units with a weight of less than 1 or even 0).

No doubt is is the same for transport ships as you have observed.

Thanks Soapy, I guess this means that transportcapability and transportweight are yet another set of variables not implemented correctly.

I seem to remember something about it not being implemented at all. The funny thing is that it seemed to be working in EU2, with different ships being able to carry different amounts of troops. In HOI it's probably some issue with breaking up divisions if you split the transport squadron (?). Just my guess.

I've tested it also and it appears it doesn't care what the transport capacity is, one division can be transported by one transport.

Even more bizzarre is that if you have three transports in one zone, load three divisions then split one of the transports off to sail somewhere else the main transport group (now only two transports) will still be carrying all three divisions. Thus allowing an exploit for humans to transport more divisions than you have transports.
