I feel like this is something that was accidentally left out, but I cannot for the life of me find a way to upgrade your transport fleets. I noticed that even a century later the transport ships that I'm using to invade planets are still using the beginning tech (fission generator, lowest in-system travel engine, etc.) and there is no way to upgrade them, since there is no option to create a transport fleet template in the ship designer.

Is anyone else not able to upgrade their transport ships?

You can't because they're not designable. You just need to edit the ship_sizes file to set them to designable. Coincidently, I have released a mod to do this already, but I can't update it because the hotfix broke modtools.

They actually are "designable", they just don't show up in the ship designer. That may seem like a meaningless distinction, but it makes a work-around possible:
Click the "auto-design ships" button in the ship designer after getting new tech and your transport design will get a updated, even if it's never shown in the list. Now embark an assault army and hit the "update ships"-button as you would for normal ships. Tadaa, shiny new fast transport ships.

Yes, unintuitive as hell. Transport ships should just show up in the list, but at least, this way you're not limited to slow transports forever until they fix it.

Thank you. I want to switch fully from wormhole travel to jump drive engines (i already beat end game crisis) and this will make it possible.
