Look at that. There are transport planes in the game. Didn't they say, bombers count as transports? It seems, they changed their minds.

As far as I recall, the original comment in the DD, way back when, was Podcat "thinking out loud" - they hadn't made a decision, but it was one of the ways that at the time they were thinking of going, but they decided they'd go in, and posted it on the forums, a whiles ago now. It's still a good thing mind.
About 1 year ago they wanted to go with bombers as transport planes (which i think was very bad), but as soon as they implemented paratroopers long time ago, they realized that it is way easier to simply add transport planes and because of that it was an no brainer for them. I would say we shouldnt really put much attention on the old informations from about an year ago, since most stuff has drasticly changed by then. I would even go as far that basicly the first 16 dev diaries are out of date.
It would have been bad anyway to do it with bombers in my oppinion, because it would be silly if paratroopers or supplies are dropped by b-17 or b-29 and your fighters are being shot down if they try to intercept them. Other than that it would put any nation with alot of strategic bombers at an advantage, when it comes to that.
I don't mind bombers running supply as long as they're a bit worse at it than dedicated transports.
Though this makes me wonder what missions are available.
I'd want to see:
1) air supply - ferry supplies to a location as long as it has an airfield.
2) paradrop supplies - this would would drop supplies on a division, wherever it is. A lot less efficient than #1, but can be improved through research.
3) airlift - move a division from one airport to another. Very expensive and should require a lot of research. A late game tech.
4) air drop - the mission that drops paratroopers.
5) air support - this mission would just be the plane flying odd jobs in a given region. The result would be a marginal benefit to combat efficiency for all friendly units in the area.
