So... In my current Italy campaign the Allies have launched Operation Torch. Britain has transit rights with Republican Spain. I took Casablanca back from the Allies with a marine landing, but the Allies keep landing troops to the south at Tamanar, a level one port. Somehow though, the Allies are able to keep 15-20 divisions supplied through this one port. My counter offensive has slowed to a halt due to their flood of units that are obviously well supplied.

When I try something like this, my divisions all starve to death and run out of fuel. Is Britain sending supplies to its armies through Spain?

It could be that they're dragging supplies in from somewhere else - I don't think it's possible for right of passage to then allow you the use of their convoys lol. Not to mention that IRL it'd be an act of war.

Anyhow, likely what's happening is they've dug up supply from some other location, or convoys are indeed reaching into the port - the actual size of the port doesn't matter, in so far as I know, as to how many supplies can be convoyed in and out of it - just how many ships the port can repair. It could also be the case that the units will *soon* run out of supply, but they came with their original 30 days of supply, and have been getting just enough to keep them above water - or they're getting supplied through the air somehow.

Someone recently wrote that ports can send out max but are restricted on receiving by the port-level. This seems true when many players are saying "you need a level 10 port for invasions."

Whatever is the case, I understand your frustration, because playing as Italy I had the UK down to a (5) in Tel-Aviv and the island- port of Lefkosa (2) and the 1 French Syria (2). For the Med this is a combined One level 9 port and yet both Allies had fleets in port and lots in the Med; all the while of course...some troops left too.

Hell, I had my fleet running out of supplies in (10)Taranto! And even my single BB Roma sitting alone in Genoa (10) "being repaired" ran out of supplies. My invasion to next-door Nice, a stone's throw from 2 level (10) ports, had supply issues. Ftr, I was maxed on Techs and LWs generals everywhere possible and had the res-minister too. Reacting to new threats is the worst, since even if in Italy proper, relocating air-wings means they'll have to starve a bit before they can fly again. <L>

idk, Seems to me the A.I. is getting some serious advantage. Maybe it must...don't know.

@marxianTJ yeah port sizes does matter. Go to supply map mode and hover over the port, it tells you how many units of supply you can ship to that port. If you know the number of supplies per naval base level and know how much supplies are required by your forces you can send the right amount of troops without worrying about lack of supplies. That is of course your convoys survive the trip.

Spot on. I think as a new player, my first tendency to defend in strength was too strong. i.e. Sending a Division where there was only enough food for a Brigade, or a Corps when a Division or two was max. and NOT getting the rest of the invasion force out asap.<S>
