Buggery would be a better term, the French would use say "bougre" for someone who had male inclinations.

Bougre word come from Bulgarians (Bulgares) and is linked to the Bogomilist (Bogomiles)
It mean heretic in the 12th century (the word Bogre is attested since 1171),
It's meaning evolved to also mean "someone who lead a dissolute life against nature", in the 13th century (it's a synonym of sodomite),
And then it evolved again to pejoratively mean "someone" in the 16th century.

What about:

Maecenas- someone who is financing an artist's works. More prestige, more piety (most art of that period is connected to Christianity and churches) but at loss of monthly wealth

Geez... how about some positive traits... I see a lot of "how can we complicate this character's life" suggestions.

Well, in that spirit:

1. Benefactor: (maybe subsumed into generous) the character uses his wealth to benefit others with whom he or she comes in contact. He keeps coins in his pocket to give to beggars, grants poor young women dowries, and supports orphanages.

2. Valiant: the character exhibits all the ideals of knighthood in his or her daily life. He protects travelers from bandits, participates enthusiastically in tournaments, and follows his own code of honor.

3. Just: the character upholds justice as the main province of a monarch. He gives everyone in his domain a fair hearing, from slave to bishop, and promotes the rule of law. His focus on justice may irk the powerful, but they will not publicly decry his faith in orderliness and justice.

4. Lawgiver: (offshoot of just perhaps) The character has gained a reputation for establishing written procedures for dealing with a variety of human problems. His actions have promoted commerce and the peaceful resolutions of disputes, but some of his peers and vassals may look at him skeptically for putting their old customs into ink and paper.

1 - it was in CK I, trait was generous
3 - it was in CK I as well

as for the second one, it would be a nice addition :)

I'd like to see an 'astrologer' trait, for instance. And this leads me to hope there are a few different 'career' paths, that is that the adult education traits do not just show the quality of the received or absorbed education but some different specializations, and that this part can be modded, of course.

3. Quick Temper - this character is known to fly into a fit of rage at the slightest provacation. -1 Diplomacy, -1 Intrigue, +1 Martial
4. Rousing Speaker - this character is able to stir men to action through inspiring speaches. +2 Diplomacy, +1 Intrigue, +2 Martial
5. Bore - this character is rude and abrubt and few seek his company. -2 Diplomacy, -1 Prestige
6. Rod of Iron - this character upholds the letter of the law quickly and to its letter. +1 Diplomacy (vassals are afraid to disagree/test him), +2 stewardship (commerce and agriculture operate without fear of bandits, etc - for example, the saying that during William the Conquorer's rule a virgin could walk with her arms full of gold from one end of england to the other unmolested), +2 piety, +Loyalty from vassals
7. Honorable - this character will uphold his word despite personal cost. +2 diplomacy, -2 Intrigue, +3 Prestige, +Loyalty to leige
8. Drunk - this character cannot operate without alcohol. -3 all stats
9. Bloodthirsty - this character knows no greater joy than to get lost in bloodlust. +1 Intrigue, +2 Martial, -2 Piety
10. Secret Warfare (medeival term for guerilla war) - this character will do anything to win in battle. -1 Diplomacy, +1 Intrigue, +3 Martial, -3 Prestige
11. Unmerciful - this character will punish and kill at the slightest pretext. +1 Intrigue, +2 Martial (inspires Dread on the battlefield), -1 Prestige, -2 Piety

However traits are handled and whichever ones are there, I want them to be more useful, beyond + and - to attributes and piety or prestige. King has already stated that they will limit or enable certain event choices. How else do you guys think that traits should affect gameplay?

Good point - in fact events and possible choices for certain problems should be probably more decisive and can be used to balance out the positive or negative effects of a trait. For example, a just character can't do anything against someone who is probably plotting against him without any certain proofs. A bloodthirsty character could just solve this very undiplomatically by simply killing the suspected plotter, and a scheming character could arrange an "accident".

For some problems you need an evil bastard. ;)

I agree, but what about others in the court. The queen mother might step in and do the "dirty work" for the king, or someone else like the spymaster. Of course, our just king might have a serious crisis when he learns the truth.

Then again, is a liege with the "just" trait really just or does he have that appearance to everyone outside his inner circle?

Because complications are what makes me enjoy CK1 most. The more messed up the character's life is, the more I'm enjoying myself.

I still mostly want Immortality and Succession Law breaking traits.
most of whats being discussed could be modded in at a moments notice or is already covered by more generic traits in the first game.

Most the traits i think of a second later i realise there not really needed. It might be nice to have more diseases or different traits for the different orders for characters in the clergy, but would it really add anything to the game but a larger list of OR = { } triggers for religious events? Most things can be abstracted or counted in with the pre-existing traits.
and as the engine this one is being built on is madly moddable any gaps can be filled in a second by anyone who cares

but Traits that do things that wont be able to be modded or atleast not easily could maybe be a good thing to think about.

that said
Maybe Unforgivable for a trait to be given after the character does something so hideous that it will forever remain a black stain on the history of their house. i.e. the Harrowing, or after getting the kinslayer trait then going on to kill another dozen cousins, illegally raising taxes combined with forceably centralising and brutally repressing, siding with the moslems and burning rome just for the gold or other acts that would ve remembered for all times. And being a trigger for events for his descendants of a noble in court using that legacy to shame the character, cost him prestige and/or loyalty or something.
and maybe the possibility that a toppled king who did nothing wrong but gain the trait after he did if his usurper has a good spymaster.

@Orinsul: On "unforgivable," given the importance of family and personal honor, I can see how it would be appropriate, though I think that "dishonored" might be a better fit. But let us not get bogged down in semantics. What should the effects be other than not being invited to social events? ;) There are certain dynasties that carried this trait, but I'm not sure how one would implement it in a game like CK2.

i was thinking that if you father/grandfather/greatgrandfather had the trait then youd be at the mercy of a random event threatening a prestige loss, having your relationships hurt alittle or gaining a negative trait [from the effects of bullying]
like cannonised, only bad

I see. Maybe there should be another event to overcome the family dishonor, but it something worth considering.

This should be in somehow. In CK1 there was the event telling you that your spymaster is sure that the child could not be yours. Having something like this really get out should be disastrous because it would put the whole succession into disarray.

I was thinking the trait "cursed" or "damned" triggered when a character dies while excommunicated and while the deceased person is in God's judgement now, having a "cursed/damned" person in the family could give u some very negative effects... (i was thinking of that to be the exact opposite of "canonised")

Not only that, but the main problem is that it usually became public knowledge, and the mere rumour of it could hit the popularity of the victim (and thus the reason of the existence of the word "cuckold") itself. If he isn't manly enough to discipline his own wife in his own house, how can he manage the estates and run his vassals?

The way I envision this thread, the Trait doesn't necessarily means that she is unfaithful, but the rumor of it is damaging enough for the traitholder's popularity and Prestige.
