Trying to join rails at anything other than ridiculously wide angles is just impossible and the result looks silly. Any train trying to take those turns at anything other than a crawl would derail. We need proper points (like roads have provided intersections) so that we have nice, clean shallow angles to which we can attach tracks neatly.

YES!!! I want to build realistic railroads and am getting frustrated. The "curved track" tool seems to be working backwards. Really like the game so far, but the problems in building rails are irritating. Of course, SC4 needed some serious work by modders before you could build realistic looking tracks.

Unfortunately, rails are not moddable in the Assets Editor. Furthermore, even if they were that wouldn't change the core problem which, as you say, is the curve rail tool working "backwards". It would work the same way in the Assets Editor so what we really need is help from the developers.

People need to learn using the curved road tool.
Its quite simple, you have two straight lines intersecting and the path the road actually goes to, the path is tangent with both lines. Its simple geometry.
to make realistic rails just keep the lines somewhat straight between different sections.

So far I've managed to make really wonderful rails and roads, really pleased with it.
For the three way intersections, make the bigger and larger, looks a lot better and should help if you have a rail traffic problem.

Right now that you can't have a shallow, graceful curve away from the line. Either you connect at a ridiculous angle or the curved rail tool gives you a curve the wrong way in order to avoid "colliding" with the existing rail, from which you then curve the correct way to go where you want and the whole thing looks ridiculous.

They need to allow rails to split at a reasonable angle. So far the angles they allow are completely wrong (Its the same issue with highways in many cases, you simply can't do what looks most sensible). The only exception (I suppose) is branching a track off to run parallel along another one, but even parallel lines have too many limitations. You can't for instance interconnect two parallel lines, those two lines will never touch again until you completely merge them. This leads to more tracks than should strictly be necessary.

Help with trains!

We need to make trains and rails easier to build. Freight trains should be built separately from passenger trains and the train traffic slows to a crawl. HELP!:unsure:

I'd like access to build rail without having to build a station first, same with subway. This needs to change. It would be like having to build bus stop before building road (well maybe not quite but you get the idea).

And then you can't plop your station on the rails you've laid because it has to be plopped next to a road and you spend two hours trying to get the road in the right position before you give up and bulldoze a chunk of your lovely track. ;)

Stations should be ploppable either next to a road or onto existing track.

Rail layout seems clumsy to me too. Maybe I'm just not good with it. Would be nice to see a screenshot from gfurst !

What about elevation on train rails? XD

Its completely impossible! Trains would, with such speed, get catapulted into the air at most points.
The weird thing is that it is not even possible to draw realistic elevations as the system limits and automates this to ground itself.
