Is it correct for CIM to show that there are no traffic lights in European cities (at least the 4 in the game)? I've never been to Europe, but I can't imagine modern cities (even ones with very efficient public transportation) not having traffic lights. Just curious.

This is a fault of the game. Of course there are traffic lights in European cities, in fact, in every single one of them! They're just not modelled in the game, unfortunatley :(

Btw German signals are a lot more complex than they need to be, yet still their trains crash more often than any other trains in the world. So much for German efficiency!

trams have their own signals wihch are a little bit more complicated:

(just use google translate)

I definitely found it difficult to believe that there aren't traffic lights in European cities. I guess that the dev's didn't find it necessary (or appropriate) to show them in the game.

There are traffic lights in all 4 of the cities, though they don't function and are merely just deco items placed to make things look more realistic. Look at some major intersections and you'll see the traffic lights.

yea thats right, when i first saw them i had a heart attack and was like hell yea, then i turned towards and faced the traffic light for 5 minutes. i can tell you that light does not change to red or even yellow. found some areas where both lights were green at a intersection. ill tell you this, there are lots of accidents there.

I looked close and found some traffic lights in Berlin and Vienna. But, like Lockheart said, they're just deco items. They probably wouldn't help the bus and tram traffic conjection a whole lot anyway even if they were functional.

You can still see the first European traffic lights in Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. Built in 1924 to deal with .... gridlocked traffic! It would be cool if they appeared in the game as something the player can position.

Most European busses, as well as ambulances, firetrucks and policecars, have for many years now a system installed that's called "VETAG" or Vehicle Tagging. This system sends info to a receiver in the trafficlight switchbox to give priority to the named vehicles by showing greenlight in their lanes. If the vehicles use a separated lane they have their own systems of trafficlights that differs from country to country in the EU.
Btw "looking at a trafficlight for 5 minutes" on speed 3 that's nearly 5 months ;-)

i hate tihs system :D i have an intersection including a tram line just in front of my door step.. and everytime the tram passes it of course gets to move ahead.. and if you are unlike shortly after the tram from the other direction crosses the same intersection too... as at least with the trafic lights here they are always switched back to "position 1" afterwards and out of the 3 positions the one for my street is position 3 with a green light for the side street it can happen that you get three consecutive red phases - and might have to wait for 5 minutes to get a green light if you are not on the main road -.- very annoying.

Somehow I have to think that if there were proper working traffic lights in the game, there wouldn't be as much gridlock as there is now.

The trams in holland are a bit less complex

also: I very much dislike the fact that cars dont switch lanes to bypass traffic, come on man.

This is one huge lie!

Referring to Statistics about rail accidents (german) or Statistics about rail accidents (english) you'll see that such disasters happen around the whole world and mostly in poor regions. Because of the intensive usage of sophisticated techniques to prevent accidents (such as PZB or LZB) the german railroad network is fairly save.

I know it would be better to have special tracks for high-speed trains like the SNCF in france has but this wouldn't ne easy to realize here because of the already dense infrastructure and environmental concerns. :)
