So recently I tracked down a copy of the old game "Traffic Giant" and seeing as how CiM is sort of its spiritual successor, I thought it might be interesting to recreate the maps from TG and bring them to life with that of CiM. Now what I ask of the members here, is that would there be any interest in these sort of maps? Has anyone here played TG and miss some of the old maps, or miss a certain special map?

Also I'd like to know if anyone can confirm that TG will work on Win7 before I go wasting money on a game that won't even run on newer systems, I was able to get the German demo to work, but I don't know if that is enough to prove that it'll run(I don't care if it runs super fast or anything).

So, any interest?

That's a really great idea!

I miss some maps of Traffic Giant. My favorite was Oldfield. The other one that I have good memories of it is Abberley.
It's quite easy to make transportation in those maps. I tried a theory of making only straight lines, like a grid and it worked very well. But at the beginning you can't do this, because there is no network effect.

Anyway, the game works perfectly on windows 7. I have Win7 64bits and it runs out of the box. No tricks, nothing. Doesn't run super fast either, just normal speed. I just didn't manage to install the patches, because it says is for 32bits only.

If all goes well, I'll make sure Oldfield is on the list of maps to do for sure.

How important would you say these patches are? I know that there is a gold edition(european version, which I think was the US release?) and those patches, like you say won't run on a win7 64bit. Would a straight download be enough to enable most of the content, minus some bugs and such? Hate to really ask for tech help on a whole other game here though.

A few tips about getting old games to run on windows 7:
After you installed the game, go to the game's folder and find the .exe file. Right Click => Properties => Compatibility. Make sure all these options are turned on:

Aye, this does help, however it doesn't help when you cannot even install things. But its good to remember for future refence.

You can do the same thing on the setup.exe file. Worked for me on some really old games like the original C&C: Red Alert (1995!).

Mm, yes but TG(patches) and some other programs still refuse to run under 32-bit or 64-bit even with the compatibility.

Ah well, I know of someone who has a copy of the game and can give me some screens of the maps and such, so maybe I'll work with that.

Yes the patches won't work with compatibility option.
But if pictures of the maps is enough for you, patches are really unnecessary. You can play the game without the patches. Just like CiM without patches.
I can also give you the screenshots if you want.

I don't know about the Gold edition. I know that there is an expansion called Down Under. But the straight game already have a lot of maps. 30 to be exact.
The patches fix some bugs and improve multiplayer settings. So, for your purpose, not necessary.

That would be great, all I need is the mini map(for the general placement) and some screens of the buildings, so that I know what goes where or what needs to be fitted. As we know many of the buildings in TG are smaller then that of the CiM buildings, so things like roads and such would have to be slightly wider appart in areas.

Down under EP is for Transport Giant, not Traffic Giant, Easily confused I know. Jowood had a bunch of "Giant" games in the series.
