Trade Routes: How do they work.

KK, I think I understand how they work: they are the path by which tech spreads and also cultural conversions.

But is there a list of the trade routes? and are they classed as first tier and second tier... that is majjor treade routes and secondary trade routes?

Where can I find the list of the trade routes? Of corse, my primary concern is correctly representing trade routes for the Celtic nations.

Thanks,

D. Llewellyn

There's no such thing as major vs secondary trade routes.

All provinces are automatically connected to any provinces that they share a land connection with, and trade routes are simply connections between two provinces that do not share a land connection. Most of these -- but not all of them -- are across sealanes.

full listing
There's also a map, but I can't find it.

All connections (land connections or trade routes) work the same way: technologies, culture, and diseases can be spread through them.

kk,

Here are my recommendations:

Galacia 156 to Kernev / Cornouaille 104
Galacia 156 to Dyfed 18 and and Desmumu 14
Galacia 156 to Cornwall 31

Nantes 106 to Kernev 104
Leon 103 to Cornwall 31
Kernev 104 to Dyfed 18
Kernev 104 to Urmumu 15 (for Hiberno-Norse Waterford)

Dyfed 18 and Morgannwg 19 to Desmumu 14 and Urmumu 15
Dyfed 18 to Dublin 11
Dyfed 18 and Morgannwg 19 to Cornwall 31
Gwynedd 64 and Ynys Mon 954 to Dublin 11 and Mann 14
Gwynedd 64 to Urmumu 15

I admit that I am uncertin about the Galacia trade routes. And this is a rough draft open for debate. What do you think?

((Gods that map of Wales looks horrible once you have seen Kurek's Wales map!))

Far too many close links imho. Take a look at the maps -- even the heavily traded Baltic and Mediterranean don't have so many links as you propose for the Brittany/Wales/Ireland connection!

I propose the following only:

Nantes 106 - Cornwall 31
Cornwall 31 - Laigin 16

Together with the existing Compostella - Nantes link, this gets the same effect you want, namely a trade route connecting the Celtic lands, without being extremely overpowered. It also keeps trade to provinces with existing links, to allow for faster and better spreading.

A link like Nantes 106 to Kernev 104 is completely unnecessary as it jumps just one province.

Far more important historical trade routes, such as Novgorod - Kiev - Cherson - Byzantium, or the Volga trade route, are not represented at all in the vanilla game.

Agreed, I was thinking, also, that the routes were too many, and I agree.

Nantes 106 - Cornwall 31
Cornwall 31 - Laigin 16

But what of a Dyfed to Urmumu 15, and or a Dyfed to Nantes. The Cornwall 31 should be to Urmumu... which according to Wikipedia is where Hiberno-Norse Waterford is located.

(Urmumu is an odd sounding word, try saying it out loud! lol)

Veld: I think a combination of the 2 should be used for Arabia. Some routes were trade routes and some were mass pilgramage routes (added to help disease spread).

Also land routes that had an endpoint more then 4 provinces away in the public beta were decided to have at least 1 extra province inbetween.

Finally both maps still miss some critical pieces of routes at the time in ME.
